DIY floor standing U frame speakers.
« on: December 01, 2019, 10:13:00 PM »
Hi all.
In about a month from now,
I will be posting picture of a open baffle that I will put together.
I have all the components,
just waiting for the Vietnamese cabinet maker to make them for me,
he's busy working on other stuff I gave him to do for me.
I am not too good at wood working. plus I have no room dust proof and very little tools.
I did the design (U frame configuration) as per a previos one I did myself that look like hell.
That's why this time, I use a professional in wood working.
I will put to use all the components that's been gathering dust for several years.
8'' Audio Nirvana extended range driver.
Two 12'' Eminence Acoustinator woofer.
Two GR Research SA-1 240 watts plate amplifier.
Soooo come back in a few weeks to follow the evolution a a pair of open baffle speaker.

Guy 13

Hopefully the new ones will be better looking than my previous desastrous attempt.
The center ones.

Hi Guy,
You have my admiration for even attempting woodworking. Other than all the time it takes and all the dust involved, I like it
Last year, I did a quick refinish on a cabinet top and surprised myself on how good it turned out.....

Nick B,
A picture of that cabinet top would be nice if you could share with all of us.
Of course, that's optional.  :)

Guy 13,
Are those your Super-V speakers in the picture?  What are the two cabinets in the center?

One of these days I’ll figure out an easy way to post pics from my iPad that doesn’t involve having my photos hosted on another site. I basically used a belt sander and the only issue is that the top is slightly uneven. I bought the cabinet 15 years ago as unassembled and unfinished furniture.

i don't believe the platform that this site is hosted on allows you to post fotos from anything but a web-based site.  i'd love it if someone proved me wrong.

Hi HAL.
The speakers on each side of the ugly ones are GR Research V1 not the Super-V.
The mid and high section including the x-over are seperate as per my idea and design
and I think it look nice.
The center ugly one are U frame configuration with two bottom 12'' Eminence Acoustinateur
driven by GR Research SA-1 (240Watts) plate amplifier
and top is a 8'' extended range Audio Nirvana (Common sense audio).
Built by myself with a Black & Decker jigsaw with double wall three quarter inch mdf.
Some equivalent high density foam (Equivalet to GR Research Norez).
Hope this is what you were looking for ? ? ?

Guy 13,
Yes, that was what I was asking.  Remember the V1 build from awhile back.

Hi all.
Another DIY speaker project is the restauration of my (Now in heaven) sister in law's
vintage Pioneer (Big bookselve) speakers.
The planet Vietnam humidity and Karaoke abuse from my wife
made those ready for a good overall repair.
Some mdf parts were rotten and the driver's coils burnt.
Sooo.... My cabinet maker will redo the exterior with selfadhesive vinyl,
make a new back and front plate and other stuff as we go along in the repairs.
I love the grills, so I will keep them.
All the drivers (8'' woofers and 3.5'' tweeters will be replaced when back in
North Pole or Canada (Same for me).
Here are a few pictures before and the pictures '' After '' will be posted in a few weeks.

Hi all.
All the floor standing speakers that I build or got built
are on rollers (Casters) that's because they are heavy
(And I am only 5'5'' - 132 Lbs) so when setting up for
evaluation I often move them around,
it's much easier on casters.
After final sut-up, I use my heavy duty (Made in Vietnam) spikes.

It’s tough to be technically challenged like I am sometimes....

Hi Nick, for hosting pictures just follow the below...

Creat an account at imgbb.com, an account isn't necessary, but it makes organizing you images easier, and it's also much easier to find them again later, if you want to use them again.

So first go to imgbb.com and click create account, follow the instructions they provide, it's similar to creating an account at a forum.

Similar to attaching an image to a post here, you attach/upload the image to your account at imgbb.com...

Click the Start Uploading button...

Choose the image you want to upload...

Then choose "BBCode Full Linked" or if the image is really big "BBCode Medium Linked"...

Then copy the code they provide...

Lastly, paste it into your post...

Hi all.
I won't start a new topic, I prefer to keep my speaker project under this topic.
Another project is the replacement of the vinyl on my Rythmik F12G servo
subwoofers (I have two units).
On the pictures you can see that they are beaten up,
look like a 40 tons truck went over it.
More picture when the work is completed, but not by me,
by my local cabinet maker.
These days, he keep him busy.
