Quote from: mresseguie on November 23, 2025, 07:38:20 AMI finally got to hear a pair of LS-9 speakers - and they sound really good. Their soundstage is noticeably taller than with my Apollos. I detected no distortion....every voice, every instrument was 'clean' without any smearing.

Scott and Renee are wonderful hosts. They prepared a veritable feast for us. Dave, it's been about 10 years since we visited you in ABQ, but I'm afraid I must declare that Scott's steak tastes better than yours. That mesquite-infused smoky flavor is to die for!

You guys would expect that the LS-9s were the star of the show, but you'd be wrong. Bentley, is Scott's and Renee's 5-year old African(?) breed dog, and he just loves attention. If you visit them, be prepared to administer butt scratches, neck rubs, and head scratches late into the night. Bentley will even talk to you!

Dave,

Funny that you should mention Tuscon. We expect to arrive there on Thanksgiving Day or the day after. Much depends on whether we drive up to Truth or Consequences for a day of hot tub soaking after a night spent in El Paso. Anyway, we will arrive in Tuscon, and will likely stay for three nights before heading west (or north depending on weather conditions in the Oregon Cascades). If you have a free afternoon to shoot the shit, we'd be delighted to meet up with you.

We are in Terlingua, TX for 4 nights. Big Bend NP's trails, sights and sounds are why we're here.  It was a hechuva long drive to get here yesterday, so we're going to make the most of our days here.

No offense taken 😁  Real mesquite smoked meats are a treat.

I'll be in Oro Vally (northern 'burb of Tucson) until next Monday.  Text me and we'll try to get together for lunch or a drink. 👍🏼

Quote from: S Clark on November 23, 2025, 03:06:54 PMBentley is a Basenji half breed with??  He'd been exiled from the house from his first encounter with a skunk a couple of days before Michael and Melody arrived, and he was soooo excited to have company.
We played mostly jazz and classical at moderate to low volumes.  Unfortunately I couldn't accommodate most of Michael's musical request- I'm way behind the times and primarily just spin vinyl.
The next day, as they were getting ready to leave to head west, I realized they would be staying only a few miles from some property we own outside the Terlingua ghost town.  It's a small world, even if he did have to drive about 480 miles to find himself in my backyard again.

How nice to connect with AN guys. If Michael ever makes it here, I stream using Qobuz and Tidal, so he will have plenty of choices for music 🎶

Well, Nick. Depending on which route we take, I might just knock on your door in a few days. One possible route takes us right through your town. The Cascades would have to be passable in order for us to take that route home. Time will tell...

On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of a visit from Michael and Melody as they started their journey back home to Oregon. They listened to some tunes and we had an enjoyable time chatting. I thought my system was sounding good, especially without room treatments and room measurements from REW. HQ Player was upsampling to DSD 256.

It was a treat to have them visit and associate very familiar names with some faces. Safe travels home, Michael and Melody!

Rene'e and I really enjoyed our visit with them.  What a fun trip they are having, seeing the U.S. and meeting kindred spirits along the way.  Makes me want to break out my dusty camping gear and go on the road.

Whoowee, what are ride this has been! We spent the night 10 miles north of Redding, CA, and will drive home today. It's 349 miles, which is a little more than most trailer folks like to drive in a day. [Most people limit themselves to 300 miles. Driving with a trailer is more tiring than driving without one.] There's an atmospheric river in Washington State that is headed south. It's dumping huge amounts of rain along its path, and I don't want to get caught out in the open.

This trip has been a blast - in addition to staying with our son, DIL and our adorable grandson, I got to visit four fellow audiophiles along the way. First up was I.Greyhound Fan in Minnesota. Next up was WGH in Tucson. Then, Melody and I visited Scott & Renee in Texas, finally, We visited Nick a few days ago.

Each audio system was different and very enjoyable - and educational for me.

Thank you, Scott and Nick for allowing us into your homes. You're more than welcome to come visit us in Oregon. We even have a guest bedroom available.

One of these days I will recount our trip in more detail, but not now as I must prepare for the final leg of this 3+ month-long trip.

New title: Off the Road Again

I have good news and bad news. The good news is we arrived home safely and got no speeding tickets along the way. The bad news is none of you guys get to inherit my audio gear.

We covered 4800 miles in 27 days. I know, that averages out to just 178 miles per day, but we stopped in a few locations for up to 4 nights.

In hindsight, we could have remained in Tucson for another couple of days, but we were concerned about possible heavy snow storms on our way back home. As the drive unfolded, the weather turned out to be pretty good. We decided to err on the side of caution.

I'll see you again,God willing.  My daughter and son-in-law in Portland are moving to Phoenix.  Brian got a big promotion with ASM!  At least both of my girls are within driving distance.  I see a move in the near future.  :thumb:

That is a heck of a lot of miles, Michael! Better you pulling that trailer than me.

As to your audio gear, that is sad news! Looks like you are "stuck" with Daedalus speakers, a Don Sachs pre and amp and a SW1X dac. Such a problem to have! Thanks again for stopping by. It was a pleasure meeting you and Melody 😊
