Hiromi with Sonic Wonder and PubliQuartet
« on: April 29, 2024, 12:24:05 AM »
Had the pleasure of watching virtuoso jazz pianist, composer, and arranger Hiromi (Uehara) at two of her shows here. She sounds like a cross between Oscar Peterson, Herbie Hancock, and some 70s rock guitarists.

Interesting interview with her before the 1st show. She explains how she was mentored by Ahmad Jamal while at Berklee, how she met Chick Corea, and why she has a special affinity with Yamaha pianos.

First night was with her new band, Sonic Wonder. She used a Nord and a Korg, I believe, in addition to the Yamaha grand.

No on-site signing, but managed to grab two vinyls with her autograph.

Second day with the PubliQuartet.

Amazing performances on both days.
