The first ABC Switch relay box #1 prototype is done.  The Neutrik connectors are relay switching signals on the front with the outputs to the speaker drivers.

Rear connectors are the ABC inputs from the different crossovers.

Now to build relay box #2.

Nick,
Thanks!

This should be very revealing of the differences for anyone that has not heard all styles of crossovers on one speaker.

The upgraded passive parts are also better matched channel to channel compared to the original crossover.   :thumb:

That is a really good idea 👍

Working on a demo for CAF2024 room 702.

Had feedback that folks want to hear what the dspNexus 2x8 can do for normal box speakers, so have a plan to retrofit a 2-way speaker I will call the M1 with an ABC Switch to allow the room to hear the difference between the original passive crossover, upgraded passive crossover and the dspNexus 2x8.  This was a production speaker that is an 8in acoustic suspension woofer and sealed tweeter.

Been working on the switching system to go between the 3 crossovers and using relays with a RPi5 as a controller driving power MOSFET's driving the12VDC  relays.  All the wiring and connectors are the same for all 3 channels.

The RPi5 control system works, so now to try and house the system for use.  To prototype, just using cardboard boxes big enough to hold the parts.

There will be one box behind each speaker with a separate control box with keyboard and monitor for switching control.  The Neutrik 4-pole connectors are the drive signals to the replays with protection diodes.

Here are the relay boxes with parts just being test fit before cutting holes and installation.

The XLR splitters are now installed for the 4 servo amps.

Oh yeah!!!  :o

It now has the effortless dynamics like live music.  Simple mic recordings are in the room with a big sound stage.

Now I have to get the room acoustics treatments again to fix the few things I am hearing that are off.

Fun stuff!

Email me dimensions and pictures  :thumb:

Dave,
The 12-12in subs are old.  I checked and they are where the T-S parameters are supposed to be.

The 6 new ones I got need a lot of run-in time to settle down.

Working the planars now for a few hours and that seems about all they need from the past use.

I have to use XLR splitters to run the 4 servo amps from 2 DAC channels.  Got those to use and will have them all working.  With just two 3x12's it was fun! :o
I have NO doubt.  :D

Signals and Noise / Re: Questions about interconnect metallurgy, geometry???

Gents,
FWIW, GEOMETRY of the cables can be as IMPORTANT as the metallurgy...  in a lot of cases MORE IMPORTANT! just saying...

Cheers,
Pete
Absolutely.  Years ago I got trashed on another forum that shall remain nameless (OK.  Initials are PE-TT) about the diameter of my power cables.  I tried to explain that was for 3 reasons:

1 - controlling L/C (R is fixed)
2 - producing a self shielding lay
3 - flexibility

Flat-earthers just could not understand and called me a liar/charlatan.

Then, my MPC/Mini++ won a Brutus Award from Positive Feedback.

Pete, you nailed the "geometry thing".  :thumb:

Oh Michael. What have I done?? haha... It wasn't intentional! We have forum member Jack D here who has a friend named Vaughan who I got all the information from. Vaughan is a great guy and comes up with all kinds of interesting info. Today I spoke with the owner/sole proprietor of Spiritual Sound in NY state named Cameron Rector. The silver gold alloy wire IC was a one off as a client had the wire and asked Cameron to incorporate it. Now Cameron says he'd have to order quite a large amount of it. But!.... I have been doing a little research and there appear to be various vendors that offer it in small amounts. I need to get the exact info as to the gauge. Cameron says it's Neotech wire. So I'm going to pursue it as it's so intriguing and I was so pleased with my audition of the Hapa Silver and Cameron's customer is so happy with it. The website is spiritualsound.co  (not com) and Cameron is a really nice guy and enjoys talking audio too. He's retired and does this for fun and the cost of his silver interconnect is $350. Shoot him an email if you'd like and I will work on finding that silver gold wire.

Absolutely will take your word on that, Pete. But quite difficult for the average guy to sometimes figure out what is sales hype vs really good design....
