Fascinating video on remastering and cutting of Karajan's Mahler on the Deutsche Grammophon YouTube channel.

Can anyone explain what is going on and maybe list what equipment I am seeing here? Dave?

That was very interesting. I am also hoping to get some input from Dave or others experienced in this area. Many, many years ago, I had a friend who had a good quality tape deck...maybe a Grundig or a Sony. I always thought tape was a pita for personal use. So I never bought one. But for mastering, that's quite different...

Outside of  pressings from the mid 1960's and early 70's, I have usually found Deutsche  Grammophon vinyl to be lacking detail (or clear bass in the earliest years).  When you look at collectable vinyl list, you find very few D.G.'s  Hopefully their standards are higher in the 21st century.
