Who'd a thunk
« on: October 11, 2020, 10:35:26 AM »
I've had a lot of luck with aftermarket power cords on my source equipment.
With that in mind I contacted Dave Elledge of PI Audio to make me a cord to power
my WiFi unit (Technicolor TC8717T). I listen through my laptop feeding the Mytek Liberty Dac/Amp
to the venerable MZF Auteur cans. Sitting here listening to Radio Paradise as I type and can honestly say
it has made an incredible difference. I was hoping the cord would improve the sound somewhat but am floored by the change it has made. The unit was given to me when I picked up Spectrum Internet and I have it running my wife's pad so she can listen to Audible books along with feeding my laptop. Listened to the stereo while she had on a classical station (WDAV) and gotta say it improved system sound also when using the WiFi. It doesn't compare to the cdp/dac combo but it's closer now.
Thanks Dave for tolerating me and your great work.

Don, my pleasure!

Most of what I do is in response to a conversation that starts something like: “What do you think about... (your topic or question here)?”  I have always been a problem solver.

When you asked about power cable mods for your WiFi router I thought about it for a little while, did some research and figured out the only way to know for sure was to build you one.  I’m just pleased to know that it is doing what I thought it would and that physics, in the context of electrical function, still work.

Enjoy, my friend.  :thumb:

I need to pull my head out and take more pictures.  Doh!

It uses a polarized IEC C7 connector that is used on lot of low current electronics.  The standard C7 is known as the figure eight cable that can be inserted in either polarity.  On the polarized version it has one square side which is the Neutral.  There are no high-end versions of the polarized C7.  Furutech makes an unpolarized version, but I wanted to insure proper connection so I used one of these that I cryoed.
