If they all sounded like this...

I got such an enthusiastic response about Baroque opera   thought I'd try something else (for the red-book-necks!) I think I mentioned this before but we seniors need to repeat ourselves (until led meekly to the slaughter) So...you want to know how your system really sounds? Hmmm? Want to stomp those boots and go for hi-gee glee? The year is 89', the label is GPR, the artist is Steve Khan, the title is "Public Access". Should still be available at Amazon.
The music is a gas, the sound? I think this is the best hi-energy recording I have or have ever heard. I'm breaking in cables (successfully for a change), thought it was time to put them to the test. I was bowled over, yet again by this recording. It has it all and no matter how high you turn up the knob, there is no aggresivity, only a wall of great music-making. I love Steve Khan, you may not. Still the best jazz rocker I know to-date. My speakers are small TL's and my amp is not powerful and the loaner cdp not so great, so you with heavy metal gear or BIG tubes will really get off on this. Come-on take my word on this one! (then thank me :thumb:)

I've got to score some of the other albums from Amazon before they disappear. There are at least three musts there. Great music, great musicians, great sound. What more can we ask?

Mine shipped today. (Hopefully won't make the world tour like your CDP  :duh )We'll know soon, but I have never heard a bad album out of GRP. The G in GRP is Dave Grusin, so you know the company has a good foundation in the music side of jazz.

Mine arrived a couple of days ago. Sadly I've only been able to listen at the computer so far but I like what I'm hearing. My copy was essentially mint, gotta love it for less than $6.00. Thanks Shep!

Disc arrived this afternoon.Turns out to be an interesting album. Most GRP releases tend to lean toward smooth jazz with most of the music pretty much melody based. This album leans more in the direction of avant-garde (not a lot, just a leaning) and seems to be more improvisational. Not that this is bad, just a little outside of the GRP box.

As for the sound, I'm not sure that I share your enthusiasm (" ...the sound? I think this is the best hi-energy recording I have or have ever heard.") IMO this album displays sonics that are pretty typical of the GRP house sound, now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there is anything wrong with that (I own over 50 GRP CDs so I don't have a problem with the sound quality of their work), it's just that I don't hear any sonic qualities in this CD that is particularly better (or worse) than the rest of their releases. (Which puts it in good company.)

While I might not place this at the top of the pile as a reference CD, it is musically interesting with credible sound thereby making it well worth  the $5 I paid for it and a worthy addition to the collection.

Thanks for the tip.
