Pete Fountain's "New Orleans" comes to mind. Could sound thin on the lower end,  depending on the system, but very open sounding and natural. Clarinet is scary accurate. Quite good on CD as well.

I just finished listening to "Ella in Berlin".  Ella Fitzgerald was never better!  This may be the best Jazz vocal concert ever recorded...  The scat in "How High The Moon" is unbelievable.  "Summertime" and "Misty" witll tear out your heart.  Not a minute of filler on the whole disk.

My father saw Ella twice.  Once as a very young girl and once as the mature artist.  We listened to her often.  I wish he could have been here with me this afternoon.  The music brought tears of joy!

Ella is/was awesome. I saw her 4 times starting in '70. She was great to the very end.  I haven't heard that whole record, but they play the how high the moon track on radio a lot.
Thanks

Eva Cassidy- "Songbird". An angel taken to soon. Any style any song a voice to remember. Check out "Over The Rainbow" Your gonna melt. Then go to "Blues Alley" CD.

Shirley Horn- "You Won't Forget Me" Listen to this Woman play the piano. Soft, delicate, goosebump city. Some great musicians on this CD.

Dick Hyman- "From The Age Of Swing" Ref. Rec.  Classy swing at its best.

Happy listening,

I have recently listened to Robben Ford - "Truth" a couple of times and I'm impressed.

He is a very musical blues based guitar player with a wide range of chops.  On the whole, the song writing is good.  The cover tracks are good as well.  The disk flows well from start to finish, but has several tracks that stand alone and could make it into a play list.  The recording/mix is good on most of the disk.  A couple of guests make suprise appearences and the basic band has rock solid, strong performances.

On the whole, I recommend this guy for those of you that like blues rock.  Loads of fun.

"Careless Love" by Madelaine Peyroux.  Terrific sound, very wide stage and superb transients. Drumkit seems a little wide, but the closely miked guitar is in the room!  We saw her at The Winery (Chateau Ste Michelle in Lynwood, WA) in August, an outdoor evening concert, and became  addicted to her creamy, unique singing.  SHe was a street musician in Paris for some years, the comparison to Billie Holiday is often made, but I think she has a better voice.
