I bet they are encoded at 128kbps and 41khz too  . At least in my crappy collection the stuff is encoded at 256/48 as I encoded it.

I'm guessing you need to be a big fan of the band to want this. Even If I was, I would not spend it. Maybe $9.99 if I liked the group but $99.99 is never going to happen!

It's just pure profit-mongering... cheap, leftover 512meg thumb drives they can't sell with a RE-release of an album that came out just a few months ago... I'm sure they picked an Apple encoding for iPod's.  I am surprised they chose ALE (I think) it's similar to FLAC.  That album was mastered to sound horrible anyway.. not sure if a bitrate would really matter.  It will of course, be VERY LOUD even at low volume...

I keep hoping people will see the insanity of the music business.. but instead people keep buying Britney Spears albums.. and when that dries up, they buy tabloids about why Britney isn't making albums...  

In any case, I'd better get back to my guitar lessons...

I think it is pretty cool to buy music on a chip. But not compressed, even lossless. I want raw uncompressed data that I can scan for mistakes before I compress it myself. USB would be a faster copy, and less chance of mfg mistakes IF it were wav. Soon 2g chips will be $1 disposable, if not already?

I don't know anything about this band. After buying Wilco $27 DVD version of their new album based on 5 star performance and 5 star sonics review in TAS, and then hearing deliberately added tape hiss, hum and dynamic mic vocal recordings, along with cardboard boring songs, I am now firmly back down in my progressive rock fearing groundhog hole. I only come out for Ottorino Respighi.
