This feels a little weird, but I guess this is the place for it now-
Rave on the 24th, Hunterdon County NJ.
I'll get the directions out to the Yahoo group one of these days.
My usual warnings:
2 big dogs and two cats. Pop that Benadryl if you need to.
We live down a 1/2 mile of dirt road, so no Ferraris please. My neighbor has done a good job w/ many of the potholes but there are some spots that require care. Maybe Ed can get here early and shuttle people from the road in his pick-up! (Kidding - just be careful)
Two rooms for audio. Smaller dedicated 2-ch and larger 6.1 home theater w/ in-wall speakers. We can set up whatever systems we want in the HT room. Anyone have anything they want to hear? As described on AC my current TV is fubar'ed and I have fingers crossed that my new plasma will be here in time for some Bluray concert discs or movie clips so I may put out a call for BR material
A question - At Toprounds Rave there was a fellow that owns a shop in PA - He is a Harbeth dealer - Does anyone remember his/his store's name? He might advertize regularly on Agon, I'll have to check.
Is it Bkonig / Transparent Music Systems?
-Mike
Joe JBtrio knows him, his name was Barry
he carried the Playback designs cd player,,nice guy, would be great to invite him.
Mike
Hi Mike(s)
Please forward your address via email. I would like to attend even if I have to go down and dirty.
Best
Mariusz :-P
So far I think the Long Island (4x)(x being the x factor, which is the Liz King) will not be attending. Mike YOU are awesome, and a genuine guy whom I like. OK Stop crying, here let me pinch the nipples ahh better, at least stranger ;) Which is better in my book. Its about 2.5 hours from here... Perhaps we need a shot of Satfrat. :)
Mike
Of course if Bob drives and I can sit in the back seat with grey poupon and yell "Pouoooopon" out the window for 2 hours. Im there.
Have fun guys!!!!!!!!
I volunteer Bob to drive, he has navigation in that leather cruiser, and the suspension is so plush in that car that you could perform circumsicions in the backseat. If you had to
You guys have to come..
Well I recall from AC that a new flat screen may be in attendance, and that Levi may bring his new Pio Elite BDP-09FD BD Player... I could bring my Oppo BDP-83...
QuoteYou guys have to come..
Yeah, you guys really don't have much choice. Attendance is mandatory. Sorry but that's just the way it is.
Ask Bob... its his turn. Bob Is it your turn? I know its not mine...
Mike - PM me your address so I can see what the estimated drive time is, then add for bridge traffic, LI Expressway traffic, Jersey traffic, etc. I can't guarantee our attendance by any means at this time. Your home is probably half a Satfrat away from us. :-P
i drove, though it was pouring rain... It was a good 2.5 hours each way.
mike
Directions sent to the Yahoo group.
-Mike
Thanks Mike, I got 'em.
Quotethough it was pouring rain
It's rained for both of the previous raves I've had here - very hard last year.
And the weekend after last year's we had a freak snowstorm in Oct and we lost power for days.
So Barry if you come and bring nice weather we'll give you the credit :D/
Does anyone have Kaplan PC that they want to show off?
-Mike
Mike....

If Paul/Occam is coming, he can bring some....or Martin (Acid Jazz here).
Not sure if Paul is making this one, but I should be.
I got a couple of his latest and greatest.
I think the LI crowd is going to pass on this one, at least I know I'm personally not up for the 2.5 hour drive. Have a good time without us and ............ take and post some pictures :duh :?
(sorry, couldn't resist)
Bob

It's less than 2 hours (about 85 miles one way).....guess you guys will miss another good Rave....(http://smiley.onegreatguy.net/dancer.gif)
Mike,
I plan to attend. Will bring beer and an amp. If there's anything I should bring, pls let me know. Thanks.
Jim
The 10-day forecast has been predicting rain for the Rave for days now.
What are the chances they are right this far out? And we get three rainy October Raves in a row?
Update - I'll be borrowing a Krell SACD Standard Mk III, so if people want to bring SACDs please do.
I emailed Barry @ Transparent Music Systems, and he is willing to bring a pr of Harbeth speakers (no, not the big boys!) for the ad-hoc system. I haven't confirmed with him yet though. I have never heard a Harbeth but am really intrigued by the seemingly "Three cones in a square box" look that gets so many rave reviews.
Tommy says he'll have a Cherry JR and I think a new DAC4800, and has offered to bring his Audio Research pre (I have a good SS pre we can use also). Jim (Hogg) says he has an amp to bring though I don't know what (Everything he's ever brought to a rave has been excellent IMO).
So we can have fun creating systems in the bigger room, and can certainly swap stuff in the 2-Ch room as well. If someone wants to bring a DAC to insert in this system go for it.
I'm hoping Paul can bring some tubes to swap in the VAC pre and maybe VAC amp.
Still no plasma and time is getting short - no big deal, though. I've uncrossed my fingers.
-Mike
The Harbeths sound natural and balanced. They are BBC-based designs. Decades back, I had the LS5/9 and the big LS5/8; I believe they are ancestors of the Harbeth 30 and 40. I had listened to a 30 in Seoul 2 years back, and their signature is the same as I recall the LS were. They are one of my all-time faves. How about comparing speaker cables. I have a Litz weave 99.99% solid silver speaker cable but they are only 6ft long.

Mind you the gear of REVERSE is not allowed within 5 miles of Mikes house. This will be monitored by an entire team of SWAT (Single Way At All Times.) professionals during the rave. Have Fun!
Mike
Great host & hostess, great sound, and great people equal a great rave!
Big thanks to Mike and Sharon for throwing a wonderful rave. I really enjoy these, at each one I get to know a few more of the group a little bit better, I'm even starting to remember names and be able to associate people with screen names.
I'm looking forward to the next one!
Best to All, Barry
Thanks, Barry.. I'd like to hear more about how things went.. or see pics.. Anyone else go?
-C
Me too, I start remembering names. Thanks to Mike and Hsaron for A+ fun event. Those pies are to die for!
Great drive out and back in pourring rain, however the fall foliage is at peak.
I got to hear Von Schweikert VR4 (?) on digital amplifications with VAC tube pre and a Krell SACD. Nice tight deep bass
The Harbeth HPL-5 (?) are on some stands, looking like 4-pillar Sound Organization, driven by a VAC EL34 amp reminded me of the Rogers LS5/8.
The vintage 2-way B&W monitors driven by a chipamp and an another EL34 integrated amp sounded musical. With my four eyes, I could not tell which tube amp is it! The gainclone sounded smooth but the tubes gave the B&W much more 3D, better tones and decay, a totally different league. Smooth, intelligible vocals and synergistic with classical music.

I think now that NYAR - AC is back up, most of the traffic has gone back there. There are a number of pix and reviews posted in this rave's thread there. If you can't see them let me know and I'll put them here in Quote Boxes.
I just posted a few pics I took at the rave on AC, but I cannot seem to be able to capture the link by right-clicking the gallery pics.
Here is the link if you wish to view them; http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=album;id=3425 (http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=album;id=3425)
