Its back!!! Well dumb dumb me put the wrong tube in. Not wearing my reading glasses [ macho move] couldn't tell the difference between the 5687 and the 12AT7 that is the correct tube. Blew a resistor. :duh.
Well thanks to Mark K. of our club the resistor is finally in. Three caps that were replaced by another Tech when the laser was done were oversized cheap arse caps [ Tech cap ?] . Now the proper original caps are back in as well.
During the stretch of the CDP being down it could still be used as a transport. I used a modded Promitheus DAC a Neko and an old modded Sonic Frontiers Assemblage.
All the DACs sounded good to very good. The Neko the best. Saying all that the Lector just reminded me of just how good digital can be. The others as good as they are are no comparison to a class "A" player. Every parameter was improved by the Lector.
What I am trying to say is try a Class "A" player in your system. Although expensive new the difference is well worth the cost.
Players like the Lector, Oracle, Esoteric, Ayre must be heard to really know what this format can do. Yes the contenders are VG and one could live with them until they experience class "A" sound.
Try one and start saving the green.

I remember your comments about the Lector back when we were talking about DACs, and my Altmann. Since then my Altmann is gone, but your Lector is still around. But I'll never ever sell my wires. Nothing cures upgraditis like buying the best. Good advice Charles!
Would love to find a Lector Digicode mk1 DAC for sale. Nobdy appears to selling theirs. The Mk2 version is just not the same animal. help in the hunt. Sharpen those arrows .

I remember your laser died. Well mine died about three weeks ago!
Bought a new one on ebay , an original japanese philips. VAm 12 02.
I knew my clock was clicking when yours died. It was only a matter of time.
My Lector should be up an running in a couple days, but to be honest I am having so much fun with vinyl.... :thumb:
Even so, the Lector is the closest thing to vinyl for not so much money!!

Charlie buy another laser assembly on ebay $32 shipped, works flawlessly and good for another 5 years!

I'm surprised....two Lector players....two bad lasers.... :shock:
And their not that old.....
well, they are from 2004. They use a plastic laser, the glass lasers are supposed to last forever, but Karl says the plastics don't last very long. And mine was played a lot. I would have it spinning on repeat for like 2 weeks in a row! And these are top loaders, no tray going in and out to cause problems, but still it died.
Fortunately the fix is cheap and easy. :thumb:

I'm sure being a top loader also contributed to the ease of the repair since there was no draw mechanics in the way.

Actually the Lector is a very simple machine, the parts count is very low as opposed to say a Krell.
And yes being a top loader there is no added clutter of a drawer mechanism, making access pretty easy.
The laser is replaced as a whole mechanism, it is replaced almost as if one is changing a hard drive.
I believe the laser itself could be replaced, but it is just easier and I would imagine better to just replace the whole drive.
Is it easy to replace the laser? I guess all this stuff is easy when you know what you are doing. I am fortunate to know someone who does :thumb:
So the Lector has a new lease on life for now, ready to suffer some more mods :duh in the ever loving chase for greatness. :rofl:
Now if only those black gates will ever settle in?
