Title: Re: FS: Custom modded Twisted Pear Audio Buffalo DAC

The one built and running is the Buffalo32. The unbuilt kit is Buffalo 2, the current version. I might be interested in that, to build one for Carl or Steve with output transformers or tube.

Here is a picture of mine, same box built at the same time as Shanes. It is all 1/8" masonite with 3/4" MDF ends, top is screwed on. Solid and safe, paintable. I think Shane's does not have volume control, but his has detachable power cord.

Sol's mods definitely improve the performance over my stock Buff32.

Thanks Rich!

The Buffalo II DAC board is actually still at Sol's I think... I was going to get him to do a tube output stage after he finished the 6C33C based amps.....  but that hasn't happened yet :)  In the meantime, I've taken a liking to the user experience of the PS Audio network bridge and the sound of the Zodiac Gold DAC....  too many pieces of gear, not enough listening time to enjoy them all :)

That's what the box looks like.  Mine does *not* have the digital volume control option.  That is a very inexpensive kit that can easily be added.  But it doesn't currently have that.  Notice the two holes to the right of the volume control on Rich's.  Mine have the same thing.  It's two LEDs; one to show the unit is powered on and one to show signal lock.  They're not offensive bright blue either.  very muted.  It's an unassuming box with lots of good sound built into it :)

My unit differs from Rich's on the back with the IEC power assembly and mine has a single XLR input.  You can use an adapter for RCA SPDIF or it can be rewired.  I had an XLR put on it because I was using a Lynx L22 pro sound card with custom JPS Labs dongle to feed it digital information.  I'll sell the Lynx pro sound card as well if folks are interested....  it's crazy good, but I've gone to USB based because of the Zodiac Gold DAC and use the Network bridge in the PS Audio, negating the need for a PC all together...
