Title: RIP William Z. Johnson
Post by: tmazz on December 14, 2011, 03:49:10 PM
William Zane Johnson founder and long time President of Audio Research Corp. passed away last Sat, Dec 10th at the age of 85.

He was a giant of the industry and will certainly be missed.

His designs have enriched the lives of countless numbers of audiophiles and his work certainly helped shape high end audio as we know it.

I thought it was an appropriate tribute to list this notice in the Tube forum.

RIP Bill

A legend in his own time. God rest his soul. Lucky I still own the Classic 60 and DR 250 servo mk2 amps.

That's sad news. He stepped away from the company just last year. Maybe his exit was health related. He remained on the board. His last circuits have been truly magnificent. Maybe the Ref 5 anniversary is his crowning achievement?  I still think the Ref110 is pure magic. Makes lousy speakers sound great. The 110 was responsible for my first outer orbit audiophile experience, set the hook...

He lived a long life doing what he loved.

Another great one gone.  While not everyone's cup of tea, I found his designs to always have that little something that made them special.

He'll be missed.
