for the 30th time ;)
Hey Mike, is there a theme for the rave...or ???
What equipment are you interested in auditioning?
I am thinking of bringing my DIY conditioner...its mostly for digital source or under 10A components, it does have a pass-thru outlet ( no conditioning) for 15A components.
Happy Birthday Barry and many, many, more!!!
Joe
Thanks Joe!
A few more details:
Lately, there has been a very noticable and kind realization that hosting these Raves can be expensive, so I'd like to let people know what I'm thinking...
In general, people are very good about bringing alcohol and desserts and snacks, so I'd like to make it official - I do not plan on spending any $$ on alcohol or desserts. Simply not having to worry about that extra case of beer, bottle of booze, two bottles of wine and a dessert etc. will lessen the cost by a significant $75-100 - And the good thing is if everyone simply continues to bring what they usually bring, all this will take care of itself! Even a few bottles of soda will be much appreciated.
We will provide lunch and appetizers etc. If people want to stay late and get some pizza, we can take up a collection at that time.
Is there a theme? Not really - If people want to bring cables/dacs/conditioners/UBERBUSSES CHARLES, HINT HINT etc feel free. My system hasn't changed all that much although I've continued to go cuckoo on the room treatments.
I took the Psvane AU7s out of the VAC pre and replaced with NOS Sylvanias and it sounds much better balanced now - It was too shrill at Barry's, sorry :duh
**If anyone has a quality AC outlet box I would like to use it in the main system - I currently have a pr of Tommy's Cherry Ultra monos being fed by a $10 monster power strip and $6 Volex power cords, so if someone has a pr of beefy pwr cords...**
As in the past, we will set up a 2nd system in my TV room - I know Jim is bringing some speakers and an amp to add to what I have so whatever we want to set up in there, bring it over. There is a subwoofer in there so bring on the monitors.
We can also watch Blu-rays in that room so if you want to bring...
The dirt road is in pretty good shape but again, best not to bring the Ferraris over, guys, or a car you just had washed!
Seriously if anyone might enjoy tooling around on the ATV let me know. No being stupid, now, we all know what gravity and inertia are.
And everyone bring CDs. Lots of CDs. All of your best CDs. And even blanks if you want. PC will be available for, you know, PC stuff.
Thanks to everyone who PM'd me with their desire to lighten the $$ load on the host :thumb:
Mike -
Found I still have your address in my gps from Oct. '10.
I'm going to try to make it as I'd like to hear the VS speakers, will bring some favorite CDs.

Wait a mun, no that out-of-this-world pie from Sheren? I ain't comin'  ](*,) Of course, our raves should be that much more fun if it's like pot-luck, everybody brings something (IF everybody does, we'd really pig out!). That's the more-fun way I would say :thumb:. Whoever brings something should report to the host, or someone taking tab so we'd know what feast we're having.
About that famous pie - The place we buy it from CAN"T GET IT ANYMORE (yes, I mean to yell)
We said Wha?? and they said Ya!, they can't get it from their supplier.
Of all the injustice...
It was, simply, the worlds best pie. RIP (Rest in Pie)
(apple/caramel with peanuts on top )
I have a nice power bar I can bring, if I can borrow it ie.
I hope to bring:
My DIY conditioner. (And the power bar).
pair of ICs.
Power cord(s).
Bottle of wine and a dessert.
Oh yeah, and ceedees.
I'll bring an apple pie from Zabar's though I know it won't be as good as the "best apple pie in the world."
RAVE BONUS!!
I have a Sony KV-34XBR910 I'd like to give away to a deserving Raver.
She's big and heavy (200 lbs) so we'll have to make sure she works before schlepping out of the basement.
One of the best tube sets ever made.
Lemme know, first come first served (or we could stage a bloody pit battle hmmmm)

Thanks to Mike for hosting. It was a really good time today and the weather was just so nice. Nice to see the 2 Ed's there today. As well as the usual suspects. :D
Bill
Being in the Tri-State area I would eventually like to attend one of these gatherings but... what about the system and music ? :wtf:
Thankkkkks to Mike and Sharen for another wonderful spring afternoon rave. We hit it right this time, beautiful sunny Sat. afternoon, great friends and food as always. This we really appreciate. That's why I spent much time socializing, basking on the deck, chatting....
Did get some earful of music in, of course. Jim's ICE amp was superwonderful, simply because it's steal kind of price. I think I've seen it on A/Cs Cheap and Cheerful thread? It's also supposed to be listed in A/N. Of course, Tommy's Cherry amp was great too. I am just saying for the money the ICE was great. The Soundfields were also great.
In the other sound room, them guys monopolized it much of the time , so when I finally got into the sweetspot sofa, I just enjoyed the von Schweikert's new sound with the added trimmings. Loved those sound panels, and those Grammars that Mike rolled out when I was in there. They really improved the sound in terms of imaging and presentation.
Well, sorry I missed the other gear, simply because I was rambling outside. Oh, of course, the Gallos. I always liked Gallos. Besides their exotic looks, they deliver. I yesterday listened to the Gallos early in the session. I somehow thought those were a bit hazy (lack of a better word), or unclear. That's why I asked Barry if the grill could be removed (not sure what that might have rendered). But... he didn't have the tools to undress them..... :thumb:
:pics?:
Thanks Sharen and Mike for having My buddy Fred and me down. Your system sounded as good as always. Fred was impressed. He would like to get back into audio but just wont jump in the pond
Mike that was an awesome time yesterday. I thoroughly enjoyed myself even with Bill there...LOL. Your lovely wife is a super decorator and the music was excellent.
To all the guys, you made a rough weekend so, so, so, much easier. Great to finally meet Chris and so many new folks....who was that guy from Connecticut-was he a local street guy...LOL....I already sent AJ a note...gotta get those what ya ma call its!!!!
Thanks again.

Mike and Sharen,
Thank you for having us over yesterday. I had a great time catching up with everyone and listening to some tunes. Yesterday was the first time I ended up listening to VR4 from the one of the 3 chairs and the sound was wonderful. Also, enjoyed listening to Soundfield monitor and Jim's Ice amp.
Thanks again.
PS: If someone finds a Cassandra Wilson Glamoured in their pile of CD's please let me know. It went on a walkabout

Yep, that was the cd. I might stop by Princeton Record Exchange next week and look for another copy.
Mike and Sharen,
Thank you for hosting yesterday's rave. It was a great time. The weather jinx has been broken :D A beautiful day with comfortable temperatures. As usual the food and libations were excellent. No one left hungry. It was good to see people I hadn't seen for months, as well as a couple of new people.
I enjoyed listening to Mike's "Big Rig" in the living room. The bass is awesome and midrange sweet. It was the first time I got the center chair :)
I spent most of my time in the home theatre suite listening to various combinations of amps and speakers. The little Episode speakers held their own. An excellent speakers for the price.
I'm happy most everyone like the Soundfield Audio Monitors I brought. They're fun speakers and very good for the price. AJ, the builder is excellent to work with. He's very knowledgeable and responsive to questions. Here's a link to his web site:
http://soundfieldaudio.net/ (http://soundfieldaudio.net/)
The ICE amp I brought from China is also an ecellent price/performer. The sound is excellent, although a litle fatiguing for long listening sesions.

Hey Jim,
I thought the sound using the ICE amp was quite sweet; fatigue????? May be we should come over and have a long listening session ? Just kidding! I liked its sound very much, for an SS amp.
Shek
Mike and Sharen,
Thank you both so much for the wonderful day filled with good people, good food, and good sounds! I really did enjoy myself, and it was great seeing you and the rest of the Ravers!
Best, Barry
More thank you's to Mike and Sharen for their hospitality, they always make one feel at home.
Hey Deepak, your Cassandra Wilson cd turned up later, Mike/mfsoa has it.
I think Mike's main rig sounded the best I have heard it to date once the Monster Cable digital cable (cd player to DAC) was replaced with the Black Cat (?)cable. Plus I believe there was additional acoustic panels this year. And the speaker platforms enhanced the clarity of the bass/lower midrange.
Jim's Soundfield Audio Monitors sounded really good, loved the soundstage depth.
I was in and out so didn't get a handle on all the swapping that went down.
The weather was excellent, a record.
Food was great...the dogs and cat welcomed company...as well as the fellow Ravers.
Thank you Mike and Sharen for hosting the March Rave....you picked the perfect day...Saint Patrick was happy.
Tasty offerings and good company always bring out the best... :thumb:
Notes...
Nice to meet Ed....hope you get the chance to enjoy a few more Raves...their fun.
Thanks Ed (Cramer) for the photos...good to see you again.
Thanks to Jim, Barry, and Tommy for the equipment...always nice to hear something different...new....and exciting....enjoyed the listen.
Had a nice time at the end of the night listening to Mike's system...the new extras added really took it up a notch...a very pleasant sounding system...and I think the platforms really added to that sound.
All in all, a good day...no traffic problems....and spotted a deer on the way out to the road...he might of been looking for Oliver and Oscar...
Thanks again to all...see you at the next one.
Chris
And a belated thanks to Mike and Sharen from me (had to work yesterday, so no tome to hit the computer). Great weather, good tunes, a beautiful house, good friends - what's not to like?
I was particularly impressed with Jim's little ICE amp - sounded stupid good for the money. Mike's rig sounded the best I've heard it. And the concert videos were fun as always.

A big thanks to Mike & Sharen for hosting a enjoyable Rave!
Finally the weather was real nice to enjoy the beautiful surroundings outside.
The system sounded very nice, once we took out that monster digital cable.
Good food, tunes, and company.
I had a fun time.
Thanks Again,
Joe
I would also like to give a hearty thanks to Sheren and Mike for hosting another one of their terrific Raves. Great to see the two Eds after such a long absence. It was nice to meet Fred. Thanks Ed C. for bringing him. The weather was spendid, as well as the company and food. Mike's main system sounded very nice. It was fun hearing the sound differences in the other room as each piece of equipment was swapped.
p.s. Mike - a great start to the F1 season. I think it's going to be very competitive this year with 3 or 4 teams having the potential to win races.
I had a nice talk with AJ this morning about his speakers and we got together on a set of Cherry with Gray baffles like Jims. I should have my set in the next few months once I get some finances worked out so I am pumped!!!!!!!!!

Still waiting for our demo pair. we worked out an agreement with AJ to demo in the NY Tri- State area. In all fairness to AJ the KEF drivers were unavailable for quite some time due to a flood in the KEF factory. He is a one Man shop and the orders are piling up as they should be. great product Ka Boom bang for the buck.
His larger speaker is no slouch either however $7500, hoping to have both available soon for demo.

When you hit the "REPLY" link to a message, at the bottom left, you'd see "Additional Options". Click on that, you'll be able to upload pictures. Supposedly, the gallery method is better, but I've not done it. It's similar to A/C I guess.
Thanks for the link...but I didn't see any way to upload new images.

Last two at the bottom.
Perhaps Mike can elaborate on what they are, they are a little unsightly but cleaned up the bass/lower midrange some.
