After my wife dusted...and I have asked her not to get near my equipment.....I have no sound. I am going direct from my SB 2 into the McCormack amp. The amp looks fine. Powers up as usual. LED is on. The ps of the modded SB has the led on. The speakers have a very, very slight hiss from a few inches away. That's normal. All the connections seem ok. I haven't opened up the SB 2. Is there an easy way to figure out what's wrong. I have a laptop with music and an iPhone that doesn't have any tunes on it. Suggestions, pls.
Nick, was the equipment on or off at the time?
Either way, if you had very low humidity in the house at the time she could have static discharged into the equipment and damaged something. If the system is still on I would power cycle everything and see if it comes back online.

It was on and the static is what I am concerned about. I've done a power on/off a couple of times on the amp and SB 2. Maybe the SB 2 has a fuse in it...I hope so.
Are there no lights or activity on the SB2?
SB Muted?
Tried factory reset?
A static shock might require a reset.
There is no fuse in any Squeezebox.
The amp has a capacitor on the input signal and the input ground is grounded, so it'll be very difficult to cause damage by a static shock. It's a tank, McCormack is a very good engineer.
Do you have a multimeter? Check the PS for 5V output.
If the SB2 looks like it is powered but no sound, then play a pop tune at full SB2 volume and test the AC voltage coming out of one of the analog outputs, should be ~1.5VAC.
Hey, give your wife a dozen roses and tell her that you love her, even when she breaks your stereo. OMG! You will assume unimaginable power that will dissipate surprisingly slowly until you get the SB fixed. Milk it!

I have a multimeter someplace. The mute thing makes sense. Steve McCormack's partner suggested a mini jack to rca male cable into my iPhone and amp. Thx for the ideas. Will work on it and advise.
Tough to milk this situation... She thinks my SP Techs are ugly and hates the tedious way the SB 2 works...as do I
Is the SB alive, with meters bouncing?

Wow, that SB is a piece of ........... I checked all the settings via the remote and finally found the right button to do a firmware update...and that did the trick! Thanks for the idea, Rich. Was really missing my music. Am very happy now :thumb:
YAY! :D
Rich is da man. :yay2:
Looks like you missed the opportunity to upgrade and blame the wife
Henry
Yes...another opportunity lost :duh
