Title: Amp Camp Amp?
Post by: James Edward on May 02, 2021, 02:02:21 PM
Howdy,
As mentioned in one of my threads threatening to wield my soldering iron- I'm looking to dive in and make something.
I came upon this and wonder if anyone has heard about it, or can take a look and see if it seems an appropriate first time project. It can be built as a stereo amp or monoblock. I'd be doing it as a stereo amp, at 8 watts per channel.
Here's the link-

Let me know what you think.
Jim
PS- I'm not concerned about the power; my speakers are fairly efficient. I'm also not under any illusions about replacing my integrated- I'm just looking for a beginner's project.

Jim,
That looks like a fun project, especially since it's a kit by Nelson Pass. I had heard about it before. Assuming you can hone your soldering skills, would you be able to test it to make sure it works? I think I could learn to solder again, but testing.... I kinda doubt it.

I was hired to assemble two ACA 1.8s about 3 weeks ago. Customer was going to run each stereo chassis as parallel or bridge configuration. Not a beginner's project as instructions not Heathkit quality but more general with some photos.

cheers

Any suggestions appreciated for a beginner kit.

Steve- I'm looking at the Heathkit site. I had no idea they were still in existence. Thanks. Truthfully, I'm looking for things to hone my non-existent skills, so I'm sure anything will do. An egg timer, Tice clock, etc...

Your welcome James. I also had no idea Heathkit was still around.
Radio Shack is also online.

I saw this and am tempted to have a go at it as well. So very cheap.

Steve Guttenberg (The Audiophiliac) did a nice comparison with the Schiit and First Watt amps.

Steve's clutter is, uhm... disconcerting.

Yes- as much as I would love to do an Audio Note kit, I need to play in the sandbox first. My best analogy would be driving and crashing your first car... Better a '65 Belvedere (in my case) than a Porsche. BTW, I didn't crash the Belvedere- it died of natural causes.

That Belvedere is likely worth some big bucks today  :thumb:

I'd never heard the GTO called a GOAT before.
To paraphrase Paul Harvey, here might be "The Rest of the Story"...

I am definitely my father's son!  My Dad, the old school street rodder!  My Mom liked that 389, too 👍🏼  The red stripe Firestones didn't last long...

This is what it looked like.  My Mom was all about lavender... even her hair as she got older.

Yeah... I read the ad. Mine was slightly different. Slant 225 6 cylinder, zero options. I doubt the resale value would be much above 50 bucks. I think the only thing in common would be the fenders. Maybe the cigarette lighter. It looked more like this:

Creative imagery allows a way to document meaningful experiences beyond what written descriptions can easily convey. Every visual frame reveals intent through composition. Instead of focusing on staged moments, thoughtful imagery highlights authentic interaction. Across different occasions, photography remains a visual record of experiences worth remembering.
