What is the gain of your amp ? preamp ? Total gain matters. What is the sensitivity of your speakers and power of your amp ? Synergy of gain IMHO is one of the most important things.

Charles,
Am using +9db on the Hattor preamp. I don't know the gain on the Erhard amp. Jack just got one and maybe he can chime in. My guess is 21 db. My speakers are 88.5 db as I recall. A terrific sounding system for a reasonable amount of money.

Measurements are required to get the circuit and power supply correct. THEN voicing with different parts is HOW one makes a design sound the way the designer wants. Nelson Pass, and Conrad Johnson, Gary Dews of Border Patrol, Christian Anneli of Aqua. ALL do that. Reason their gear sounds great. Amir does not listen to anything. I have zero respect for that.Transparency is the result of getting power supply right as much as creating a great signal path is...

Agreed. Just ask Gary dews.

For class A tube amps you can't beat choke-input power supplies.Quote from: P.I. on May 23, 2026, 10:38:47 AMQuote from: rollo on May 23, 2026, 08:32:36 AMIt is really simple.
