Squeeze Box Duet

I just bought a brand new SqueezeBox Duet on Amazon.com for $169.99. i dont know anything about this type of device except that you can store music on your computer and play it on your rig without wires Connecting them together, do i need special software in my computer to set this unit up

Awesome!! You're gonna love it. Nice price too. I think I paid $280 for my Squeezebox 3 in 2006.

You need to install the latest version of Squeezebox Server onto your computer. That will be the server for the Squeezebox client streamer. Then you can play music from any hard drive on the server or your home network, or stream music from the web.

Very cool and a great price!  As Rich said, you'll want to download SqueezeCenter, install on a PC on your home network and then either run ethernet to the Duet Receiver or let it operate wireless.   

I've got an SB3, Duet and Touch and I run them all wireless.  The Touch is on my big rig and I run it digital out to my DAC.  The other two are on bedroom and kitchen systems and I just use the analog outs on those.  Personally, I think my biggest learning curve had very little to do with the Squeezebox technologies.  It took me awhile to figure out the best way to rip and organize all my music.   But, as Rich hinted at with Pandora, there is a wealth of music sources to tap out there!  Pandora is one of the best.

It has it's own DAC, so a separate DAC isn't necessary.

Visit the Bolder Cable circle over on Audio Circle.  Wayne offers lots of mods on all the Logitech music servers.  He's a good guy.

I tried a Squeeze Box 3 (modded by someone else) and it wasn't stable (every couple of weeks it would develop major problems and only by trial and error could I eventually get it to work again).  When it worked, it was cool.  OTOH you'll have to keep a CD player in the system or have to rip everything before listening.
