Anyone notice the Salk soap opera on AC?

Some guy is pissed at the finish of his speakers.
He publicly grumbles, then gets a blanket party from the Salk fan boys.

Problem with having the vendor sponsored forums is they create that atmosphere that results in the soap opera.

AV123 had the same problem , just like the Bryston boys.
Insecurity feeds these guys and they all hang out together and form a mob mentality, any dissent is crushed.

I like Audio Nervosa because it has none of that BS over at AC.
Freedom is a wonderful thing, speak your mind.

Vendor funded forums are usually very tightly controlled, and in a propagandist way, are used to sway opinion or sometimes give opinion as a directive. Any swaying from the main object is quickly righted.
We see this in so many aspects of life, that it appears in audio forums boggles my mind, but I guess it really shouldn't it is human nature.

I feel I need a shower when I visit AC, or a least defrag my hard drive!

System consists of an amp a preamp, 2 speakers a turntable and a phono preamp, Also some cables and power cords and a really cheap cd player.

you need to practice safe web surfing these days !

Ever notice how those fags that don't like Bryston and Van Alstine and Salk always tend to migrate over here to Audio Nervosa just to start trouble. They got banned over at Audiogon for being too much of a fanboy and piled up at AC where "those that know ... go".

Hey, if you can't drink the coolade then you need you bus ticket punched, or something like that.

I for one feel ... well actually I feel like a doughnut and am starting to look like one lately. I think I'm going to stop this rant and head over to Dunkin.

A donut hole is even worse!!!!!!!!!!

D&D can be good it just depends on the franchisee. I have my favorite D&D places to go when I need a fix. KrispyKreme donuts can be a bit small for me.

Regarding the Salk situation. That is really unfortunate. I can understand devotion to a brand or product but some people take it too far. If a buyer is having an issue and articulates their problem with the product like a normal human being they shouldn't get pounced on. I only venture to AC if I absolutely have no where else to go when looking for information. Too much drama and bs there. I thought AVSForum was bad but AC is something else.

ya see ??!!  we cant even agree on doughnuts...never mind stereo equipment...there is no hope for mankind !!

First time I heard Salks in 2006, not bad with AVA SS, significantly better with the AVA tube amp (then a prototype.) Nothin special though, despite the "old rope" speaker cables.  Recent auditions have me thinking that the Salks have gone downhill in SQ. Hearing them at CAF last few years they sounded fair to bad, while the AVA electronics have improved, as heard on Murphy's own speakers.

When I lived in LA in 91, there were no DDs there at all. When one opened in downtown LA, about 50 miles from us, A few of us drove to get the DD love. But they were too new, had not perfected the technique, fresh back from DD school with their brand new store. But it was worth the trip! Ah youth

I think DD is taken over by the bean counters now, they have lost their way. The quality and selection of donuts has gone down while a million fancy stupid toy marketing foods have come and gone. I can't even get a powdered cinnamon donut anymore. I live in Krispie Kreme country, but I have little use for it. No flavor, just sweet empty nothing.

There is a Krispie Kreme Challenge charity road race every springtime, here in Raleigh. You start from the famous Bell Tower landmark at NCSU, run a couple miles to the donut shop, eat a dozen donuts and run back to the Bell Tower. People dress up in funny costumes.

Oops, forgot to make a point...

I don't understand what's the big attraction to Salk speakers, other than the veneer, and the membership in the clique. Is it just WAF? Do they actually care that much about veneer to sacrifice SQ?

There is no other reason than looks to buy a Fiat 500, but they sell like crazy. People care about appearance. Metrosexual Audiophiles?

Never would have imagined this ... a "Doughnut Derailment" of the thread!  :duh

KK sponsoring a run?  That's good to burn off some of that sugar, Rich.  Did you run though ?

IMO Salks in the early days = DM, 'cos DM's soul (crossovers) was in them.  Salk dressed it up with shiny boxes (excellent finish), very attractive, look- as well as price-wise.  Now that DM's got his own line to develop, the Salk line probably has gone its own direction, and hence the sound change? :thumb:

No running, but I didn't eat the donuts either...

 is correct!

I think Murphy's Philharmonic speakers sound very good, especially for the price. Not sure if he still does Salks, but if not, then that would explain the difference.
