My roof just got raised a little higher..hope the nails hold !!
My son sold his old solid state Marshall and ordered this setup from Amazon.
All tube... 12ax7's and  6l6's 55 watts...2x12" cab for $650 delivered with a money back guarantee.
The thing sounds friggin awesome !!
Sure its not audiophile gear..but after hearing a guitar thru this, it makes you realize we have a long way to go in reproducing music in our homes.

Amen to that!

I have a friend who has a 9foot Steinway in her living room. One evening a few yeas back I was at a gathering at her house and she entertained us by playing some music from Shubert's Trout Quintet. Later that evening I rushed home thinking that I had a pristine Shaded Dog pressing of that very piece.

With great anticipation I put it on and within 30 seconds I was ready to cry. The sonic presentation out of my reference system was so far from the reality of the living room performance it wasn't even funny.
Remember, it's all about the music........

Sure, same holds true for any live music I have heard.
In my opinion, there is something lost in the recording process that can never be reconstituted. Well at least not with any technology I  have yet to hear.
I have always believed playback of recorded music was never anything more real than watching a movie. You would never be fooled in thinking you are there, you must suspend disbelief to enjoy it. And I do enjoy it !!

Hi Greg

What 12AX7 tubes are in the head amp? Any chance you can get your son to tube roll with his gear? I'm wondering if he can perceive differences with tone etc using different 12AX7 tubes. Maybe he is willing to be a tube test subject?

Not really sure...Chinese I imagine. I cant see much, they are behind a metal cage. Don't think Matt would take kindly to me fiddling with his new toy.
I have been able to get various tones from connecting different combinations of speaker impedance and  the  impedance switch on the back of the amp. Also plenty of changes possible with a normal and bright input...mid boost switch and presence control. As well as bass, mid and treble eq.

As do I, which is why I gave obsessing about  making it sound real. I just get it as good as I can and then sit back and enjoy.  8)

Yep, try to "reproduce" it as much & as good as possible!

I had a neighbor several homes down the block that would practice on his drum set with the windows open... Simply amazing how you could tell it was REAL & not Memorex!!!
