That's a great question, Emil, and I was wondering the same thing as I'm toying with the idea of replacing the Auralic Mini. Assuming some of these devices just pass along data, what value would a great linear power supply have or any other expensive features?

The Lumin D1 unit has balanced and unbalanced analog outputs, so there must be a DAC inside. 

From the picture is looks like a Wolfson Micro WM8741 DAC.
