Guys:

I received a NOS Bendix 6X5GT, produced in 1958, today and I just replaced a Sylvania (made by RCA) 6X5 in the power supply of my Mapletree Preamp.  Folks that think a rectifier tube does not impact sound don't know squat!  I am happy I made the investment in this tube and can only imagine it will get better after 50 hours or so!

GREAT!!  give me some more details.      I've got some of the 12sn7's coming from Andy at Vintage Tube services and I hope to add another 6x5gt to the list.

No new money spent on audio!!  but starting in 2012!!

Ken,

Is your 6X5gt the 5852 Bendix?

It is a great tube as I use them also but it is not a direct replacement for a 6X5 especially in the Mapletree pre from what I have read.

Here is a link.

Bill:

Thanks, I will call Dr. Lloyd tomorrow or on Friday.  If it needs a mod I will have to call Dr. Sol because this tube makes a huge impact.

Rob,

Bill,
Hey!, sorry I missed your above post.  Didn't mean to ignore you.   How different is the 12sx7 from the 12sn7?   A direct replacement?  What do you recommend?

Thanks,

Rob S.

Rob,
I believe it is a direct replacement. Look for RCA's would be my suggestion. Difference in sound between the two. :duh  It's all subjective but give them a try, they cost more so they must be better
