Thought I'd try here... trying to help my father with some decisions.

He doesn't have a super fancy system, but works well for what he wants...
He's looking for some surround speakers... he has a fairly large family room (cathedral ceilings, shaped like a long rectangle with the seating area on one long side, and the entertainment system on the other)... his mains and center are fairly efficient (mid 90s dB - some variant of Klipsch - no longer made, but I think close the the Reference Series RF-52).

Due to the room, curtains (behind seating area), he would like to find something smallish that could be mounted in the corner (so they wouldn't be in the way of the curtains as they open/close). Price range is in the $300 to $500ish for the pair.

One idea I had was something like the Mirage Nanosat or OS3-SAT... thoughts? Wondering how tehse would be tucked away in a corner. Anything else that might fit the bill. He may consider a bookshelf and stand if that's a better way to go... I see Klipsch offers the RS-42... but not sure how well that would work in a corner.

Thoughts?
Dave

Do you have any room to mount them along the side walls? Paradigm has some nice dipole speakers that are designed to send the rear channel information in both directions parallel to the side walls. Works very well. And makes them much easier to place in situations where the seating is right up against the back wall. They have several sizes for varying prices. You can pick one that fits both your room and your budget. If you still want to use conventional small speakers I don't think you can go wrong with the Paradigm Atoms. Well reviewed in Stereophile and just a great bang for the buck.

I've thought about these in the past for myself... WAF factor is pretty high IMHO.
I was thinking they would make an interesting small set of computer speakers.

Anyway... I digress.  :D

Not sure my father would go for those... but I did pass the idea along.. as well as the Atoms - people's memories here are much better than mine these days.

Always up for more suggestions.
