Trying to help my brother with a shortlist... $1500 is pretty much a hard limit... He wants to buy new and definitely wants a floorstander.

A couple that came to mind are the Revel F12s and PSB Image T6s...
Anything else in this price range?

Their choice in music varies... Anything from Death Cab for Cutie, too new grass/Americana (Mumford and Sons), kings of Leon, The National, Norah Jones... Not really into heavy rock... Definitely no metal.

Thoughts?

These were being played at the AXPONA show, and offered as a raffle prize for all show attendees. They were on demo but I didn't not go in there.  :duh   Since then I have run across lots of buzz online about this new design. A terrific review in April Stereophile and another in the somewhat honest British What-HiFi magazine. There are other forum type comments on the web.

There are many different sizes to suit room and budget. MusicDirect is the only online Wharfdale dealer I could find, and they list a bookshelf for $229 iirc? So the bigger ones should fall under 1500. The 10.7 is the biggest and has enough driver area to play pretty low. It is $1299

They are made in China and covered in plastic wrap. Crossovers will not be the most subtle or refined, but the reviewers seem to be impressed overall.

Polk also has a new floorstander coming out. It looks very pretty indeed. But I don't know how it will sound. http://www.lsimseries.com

Of the ones you mentioned I'd say go Revel over PSB if there is a choice.

A pair of these would leave $500.00 left over for a subwoofer.  :thumb:

My intuition tells me te Deware is the best of the bunch, but I'm admitedly prejudiced since I have TL's.

Revel F12.  Surprising performance for the money.  Will rock if you want it to but does jazz, blues, vocal equally well

$1498/pr

Very high value LS 3/5A clone with matched bass unit/stands, $1220/pair
I heard them at the 2009 AKFest and they were one of 3 speakers (and by far the cheapest) that went deep and didn't boom in those small/hard walled rooms.  I've owned LS 3/5A clones (also with transmission line bass), so these had a familar sound and did very, very well for the money.
