And now I'm waiting for the synergy, because the Shelter doesn't seem to have it with my setup. Of course, I don't know how long it's been since the Shelter was last used, so I'll use it for a couple weeks until a few people  come by after the Capital Audio fest and compare against the Dynavector, and and see were I'm at. But at the moment I definately prefer the Dynavector.

If the Shelter hasn't been used for a while maybe it could use a little degaussing to shake the cobwebs out. Do you have a Fluxbuster type device or one of the Cardas degaussing records?

You know what Tom, after I ran 6 or so albums by it it seemed to straighten out and sounded much better.

Could have been that the suspension had just gotten a little stiff after sitting for to long.

At my age I know mine does.

Thank God for digital scales, seems all I've done last few days is check tracking weight. The VPI unipivot JMW arms set BOTH tracking and azimuth with a weight that slides along arm for tracking, and rotates around arm for azimuth, (it's not a perfect circle, so spinning weight around arm moves the majority of weight to a new angle vs. the arm, thus affecting azimuth). The allen tool that came with the Scout wasn't very substantial, so I couldn't sock the screw that holds weight into place very securely. And it would slip.

Just got a proper 'L' shaped allen wrench of proper size, that weight isn't going anywhere now.

But for last few days all I felt like I did was 'check tracking weight', 'check tracking weight', 'check....'. The digital scale makes it easy to read the weight.

Had a conversation with the VPI rep. at Capitol Audio Fest, got my questions answered. Drove back down to DC last Sunday to buy a used Gingko Cloud 11 base for the SSM. I wanted to get the Cloud 12S which is made for Super ScoutMasters, but it's a $600 item new, and I haven't seen any used ones for sale. Mr Vu, the man behind Gingko, and I have been trading emails, he mentioned a custom width Cloud 11 would work, with no room to spare, and I got one from a bloke in DC for $140. He was right, no room to spare, notice the feet to the right slightly hang over edge. The standard feet are cones, these are the feet from the HRX I got as an option.

The good news, I just stomped all around my listening room while playing Fleetwood Max, no noise - much less needle jump - occurred. A big win there.

This is a product I can recommend for folks looking to damp vibrations from getting to their tt.  :thumb:

I use a "cheap man's" Ginko under my TT. I have the TT set on a maple butcher block board, with 9 squash balls under it, sitting on my shelf. Yes, this type of isolation woked really well for me also. I cannot hear a knuckle wrap on the stand with the needle in the groove and the record not spinning. That is a very hard test to pass. It doesn't guarantee good sound, but it does guarantee isolation from floowborne or rack induced vibrations.
