I got 4 CDs for Christmas this year. What music have you received as gifts in 2012?

I didn't get any music.  I bought myself some gear.... got some of the new iFi micro stuff on the way to play with.... will be interesting to see how much of a difference there is between it and the big AMR stuff... $300 USB Dac versus $5K DAC from the same brains....  curious to hear the differences :)

I also prepaid for a set of SEOS-24 fiberglass horns for the JBL 2447H 1.5" exit compression drivers with beryllium replacement diaphragms for a set of DIY speakers I want to build.  I also pre-paid for a set of Iwata-300 2" horns for the JBL 2446 compression drivers with beryllium replacement diaphragms for a second set of DIY speakers I want to hear.

I'm going to get a couple Trinnov pieces in the new year, including their new Amethyst preamp that will do all the crossover, phase, delay, and EQ I need to play with the DIY speakers I've been tossing around.  Woofers are AE TD15M and TD15H..... should be interesting...  I might need you to build me some boxes, Rich :)  My other local woodworker has been difficult to reach lately.....

I need to buy some new music.... We listen to Direct TV music stations 12+ hours a day with Ryan.... he likes the AMR integrated driving Harbeth Monitor 30.1s compared to the TV speakers in that room... so at least there's that :).... I'm tired of the kids music stations already, though... ominous sign for when he wants to play them even more than right now....

Those beryllium diaphrams are delicious :thumb:
System consists of an amp a preamp, 2 speakers a turntable and a phono preamp, Also some cables and power cords and a really cheap cd player.

Gabriel So 25

Twenty sixth anniversary remaster...of which I'm terribly disappointed.  I always loved the music on So, but hated the clattery, overdriven, distorted, and horribly sibilant recording.  So 25 sounds exactly like the original recoding on vinyl: Clattery, overdriven, distorted and horribly sibilant.  According to Gabriel's site, it was exactly the sound they intended.  I don't understand at all considering how well the last few Gabriel albums have been recorded.  "Up" is a sonic, if not musical, masterpiece and New Blood is remarkable musically as well as sonically.  So 25 is just a mess.  Very sad.

'So' brings back memories! I never noticed the bad sound per se.

Shane: Boxes R Us! No problem. Looking forward to hearing what this horn+woofer concept is capable of at the high end, especially the beryllium horns with the M woofers. Leave it to you to plumb the depths. Amethyst sounds cool too.

While you listen to all your new music and need a place to set down your sipping glass, these are cute. :thumb:

I just got hold of a 2002 remaster of So.  This is what I'd hoped for:  Bass still has the same character and tone without the overdriven distortion.  Top end is still very present, but not burning and sibilant.  Allegedly Gabriel was dissatisfied with the sound quality on this remaster, although I like it SO much better.
