I should be getting some (hand made) power cable from Grover (to solder and terminate) That should improve the 20 year old zip cord. AND more to the point, is being made for me a whole new thing for the cdp.
It's the SS version of the tube stage from Poland. According to the wise ones on DIY, it will be even better and much easier to install. It will look like this

Then I will send the whole player to UK to install this and have Mundorf caps and some other bits put in.
I'm nothing if not persistant...That Polish guy dropped off the radar, didn't answer any messages, so much for that. Ray (of http://www.raylectronics.nl/index_en.html) is a pleasure to work with and answers all my silly questions! His work is not cheap but according to my man in England, he's the real deal. Since they are buddies on the forum, there's no conflict of interest. Everyone is jumping on the computer based format and I'm going in the opposite direction! well someone has to keep the museum open. They said vinyl was dead too, remember? Years ago I had a friend in Switzerland who was a hard core DIY'er, long before it was fashinable. He bought one of those high-end Sony cdp's, the ones that weighed 40lbs and cost the earth. He took it apart and said something like, that in spite of the appearance and genuine engeneering skill and care, it had hardly begun to voice it's true potential. Voila a little update from far off lands.

You and that Marantz have been though a lot, shep. It must be sounding great after all you've done to it. But there's always more to try, right?   Grover power cords, huh? Looking forward to your report on what it looks/sounds like.

Did you guys read the Grover SX cable review in AA?

shep

Yes but it really doesn't say very much. Then again it's pretty hard to describe the sound of a cable, with the best of intentions.
