My wife said she loves the horns, she has a carpet picked out that will go well with the color of the wood, she said, Depeche Mode will probably sound great on these new speakers. :duh
She also said to tell your friends that,"Big speakers, little pee pee, does not apply in this house!"

So wifey says, "Go for it"
I always wanted to try horns and low power, as they say, power corrupts...
they may be right, all my serious audiophile friends are pushing me in this direction

life is short

I believe the Virgo's are small speakers with a big sound, but the Pipedreams and horns are definetly big speakers! My room is only 13 by 18, so I am limited by how big a speaker my room can handle.
I have heard horns sound like crap and also sound amazing, so I no longer shoe horn(pardon) speaker designs into what is good or bad. Implementation can make or break a design.
I have these huge horns that may work in my room or not, if they do not, then I try to sell them.
Pipedreams if they work, they stay, if not move on. As long as I break even on price I can afford to take a chance, and get the opportunity to learn.

you can't beat that.... no matter how big or small your pee pee is....

The ying & yang of matching room decore with high WAF.
You married a good one :thumb:

I've been trying to get my little lady to approve some diffusers as she already says "the padded room is appropriate for me" but like a fine wine these things take time. An extra trip to the store or waking me at 4am to run to her place of business to make sure that she locked the front door as this happened on Friday night goes a long way to show love by going the extra mile. These things build into a nice stack of "thoughtful gifts" or going the extra mile for those loved that have an accumulative wealth of ,Oh he did that for me, the least I can do is let him have his little toys to keep him happy.

The opposite is true also as now I have to think of way to show my love back when she surprised me with some Allison Krause tickets on the main floor coming to Chicago in September :drool:YES!!

I call it the favor bank.
You have to keep making deposits in the favor bank, because you know one day you will make a withdrawal

Unfortunately my favor bank balance is in the red these days

That's what I like about you Mike, thinking ahead to the next change, and even the one after that before you even hear it. Reminds me of me.

Rich, you have no idea how much gear has come thru these doors!
But have no fear, this is no audio gear slut, for the sake of gear.
All the while tons of music is played, bought and collected, so while the gear comes and goes the music is always on.
I am not one to sit on my laurels(not that I have any) there is so much to hear and so little time.
People go to shows to hear gear, my room sometimes feels like a show on a small scale.

I just brouyght in another tube preamp, a choke loaded 6sn7 based pre that is warming up right now.

Lots of options out there, I am truly rich in friends.

Whoa!  How did I miss this?  Welcome to the dark side, or actually, IMO, the right side.  Small speaker/Big watt amps were the corruption of hi-fi IMO.  It took me a long while to get here, glad to see others in the club are coming this way too!

I actually have a 3 stage direct coupled no-freaking-holds barred 300B amp I am not using and probably won't be for some time.  You could borrow it if you like.  A friend of Jeffrey Jackson who was a technician built this amp and then sold it to me.

Its 3 stages, 6SN7 > 71A > 300B with no caps.  Its a bit tedious to bias as all bias relies on the previous stage, but he wrote up good instructions.  Its a monster of an amp with no electrolytics anywhere (just say no to electrolytics!).  Two boxes, full dual mono.  Its ugly-ish, but its not about the looks.

Andrew is looking down, shaking his head, wondering what happened to my DAD? He used to have such cool audio gear. Now THIS!

Answer: he heard Volti Audio Vittora speakers at CAF and the hook has been reeling him in ever since.

It's gonna be OK Mike! Pretty soon, you'll get all that other furnishings out of there so you have room for a whole pair of horns and maybe a listening chair if you're lucky, then you can start looking for openings in the foundation where you can put your bass horns.

Funny, my wife likes the big horn speakers too. At least on paper where she can't see the true scale. When she sees a 38" Le Cleac'h setup in the music room we'll see how much she likes it then!

Whatcha got for drivers on the top horns? Some vintage CDs iirc?
