Hi all just wanted to introduce myself .
I'm in Nor-Cal just north of the SF bay area
I have a 9.2 system that includes a
Onkyo TX-NR5008 AVR
Emotiva UPA-7 Power Amp
custom HTPC (built by me )
Sony Blu-Ray
60" Sharp LCD display
20" monitor display
APC H15blk power conditioner
Dual SVS PC12-NSD subwoofers
Window 7 home network ( 2 other PC's )
Direct TV 2 DVR's
another 7.2 system in the bedroom to keep "Herself " happy
all units that can be are connected by a highspeed router with Cat5

speakers as follows /

4 each  CornScala's ( modded from CornWall cabinets with Bob Crites XO's & drivers ) doubled walled the cabs to 1 1/2"
5 each CS-1.5 built by me & in a horizontal cofiguration  ( this is a speaker ,2 way horn loaded ,designed by Bob Crites as a up grade to a Klipsch Hersey (the original design was the CS-1 , a mod of a Hersey using the Kilpsch cabinet ) the CS-1.5 uses a larger ported cab to allow the Crites woofer to reach down to 40 , making for a great bass response )

in the process of building all new power cords for the above units
also in the process of adding dedicated 20 amp power lines to the room by way of a sub panel
as i could not find a introductions thread I thought it best to introduce myself here on the BiPolar Disorders . Mods please move if this is not the right place for this .
AnyWay a big Hi !! to everyone
Seems like a very cool forum .
I hope to learn & share

Thanx
Mike

Welcome, Mike.

I think it's interesting how you included your Windows 7 stuff in your hifi.  Although I've heard it myself and agree that a hard drive is a far superior digital source to a CD, I still find it weird to include a PC (or several) as a audio component....especially when the other components includes of vacuum tubes and phonographs.

Sigh.

We are always glad to have another member.

It is great to have you, Mike.  We do not have an introduction area, but a catch-all area called 'Anectodal Evidence'... which is where general discussion goes.  So, I will move this there.
Your system sounds like the culmination of a lot of hard work and experimentation.  I think audio PC is the only way to go.  I hope to find a DAC that's good enough not to have me wishing for the vinyl one day.

There certainly is some magic to vinyl... but the better your system, the more revealing it is to pressing and mastering issues of vinyl.  Vinyl adds another level of places to screw up the final product... and I find they do this regularly on modern music.  For the few albums where it all comes together, it's really worth it to listen to vinyl.

I still use XP for my audio PC, with all the tweaks.  I plan to use Linux for my next audio PC... probably using the Atom processor and linear power supply and SS HD.  It's on the to-do list... I just haven't found one that has a good digital output... or a way to install a card that has one.  I don't need much, I stream flac from my server too. ;)

I really enjoy listening to music.

Nice part of windows 7 is you don't need a server if all the PC's have windows 7 & one has a highspeed router. Yes having a server on windows 7 is nice & maybe even easier, I will find out when I can build one my self but still waiting on an affordable & easy to manage software to handle the recordings is the hang-up for me on that front .  I know a lot of people hate anything Windows .But it is what it is the Best OS yet from Gates & Co.
That & I can build my own PC machines to my taste where as a Steve Jobs platform that is not a easy chore & the fact I'm just not a Apple fan at all .
My Vinyl days are over , I myself I am just too rough on them ,I always was in my early days when vinyl was all there was & still am the same guy .I love hearing vinyl don't get me wrong ,It's just not for me as I all ways harm that rare  piece of product as soon as I touch it & these days you just can't run out & buy another very easy as one could in the Golden Days of Vinyl .  Most of my listening these days is from live shows, well recorded audience shows or recordings off the soundboards, I was till just recently a hard core audience recorder myself. Some of the Live shows on Blu-Ray are really interesting & I hope that we will see more offered .I am a hard core Classic Rock fan from the 60'ies  on . But I find the better my gear gets the more I come to find classical music really rewarding .
I have been hooked on the audio bug since i was a kid ,In '65 my Dad had an Teac reel to reel & various other gear when i was 10  by 12 I was listening to bootleg FM till dawn ,when all the rest of the family was sleeping.
