I don't think you should relate hifi and love/marriage, but hifi and lust.  I've often thought that the way to sell more hifi magazines is to have a centerfold of the amp of the month.  I know, I know, you would only read the review.

Well, there in lies the rub...

love/marriage == long term contendedness/happiness to just sit and listen to music
lust == continuous desire to find what's next (of course, we call it a search for the perfect system/relationship ;-)

Hmmm, then just what does this say about this website?

I sat down with the new Mark Knopfler last night "Kill to Get Crimson".  MKs stuff is always top shelf and his recordings are second to none - phenomenal stuff.  I was listening in wonder of how great my sound is right now.

But I have new speakers on the way.  And, I'm commissioning a new SB3 transport for my Lessloss DAC.  I'm nuts!  In my own defense, I'm just moving to the newer version of the speakers I already have which haven't undergone sea-change and I just want to add SB3 functionality to the CD/transport sound I already have.

Of course, hard-drive served bits to a clock-linked 1704 DAC might be pretty yummy!

Imo - lust is wanting the component. Getting it suggests commitment. I like to read "Stereophile" (only a matter of time before they incorporate a centerfold) while listening to a system that I'm pretty privileged to have in the house.
Gonna go to the 'Gon and get my lust fix

Hi,

The only thing that i'm not satisifed with is trying to get good quality software for my system.  I'll try the mark knofler cd.

Regards

Rod

ps i'm never happy because i'm always looking for the next upgrade.

Life is much easier when you don't have the DISEASE. However, like Rocket I am always on the lookout for
well recorded software. Celtic Woman's first CD and their Christmas CD are good recordings and enjoyable
to listen to. Seasons Greetings.

I'm mostly buying music for the holidays too.

If you are looking for Christmas music this might help and it is funny too:  http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=17180168

I like this thread as a sort of 'group therapy' session   :)

I am very content now, after having just gone through a significant change in my system.  I was quite happy with my old system - Omega Hemptones, 6w SLA-powered tripath, iMod.  BUT, I've had my eye on Louis's MaxHemps and Vinnie's Signature 30 (now 30.2) for a while, with the intent to eventually step up to those.
Well, I've taken that step, and I'm glad I have.  I'm quite content now.

........Although next week I'm going over to a friend's house (for the first time) to listen to his system:  Wilson Audio Watt/Puppy multichannel setup with Levinson amps all 'round

As far as 'itches' go, I'm very content with my front end now, and very pleased with my speakers, but I have a HUGE curiosity about some of the other efficient designs out there - Living Voice, Zu, DeVore, Cain&cain, Naim, etc.  I can see some nervosa springing up there.........

I'll be interested in your take on the Wilson/Levinson sound, especially comparing your feeling toward your new system. Not on technical aspects, but in terms of emotional and musical satisfaction. Both brands are superb on their own, but the Wilson Levinson combo was pretty lifeless on my last audition. But the ingredients don't make the dish, it's the chef! I bet it will be a hoot to hear it.

Thanks, Rich,

Yeah, it will be interesting to hear his system, for sure.

I came from a 'round earth' system - B&K multichannel pre-amp, Onkyo Grand Integra amps (stack of 3 for 6 channels) - with Krell/McIntosh at the doorstep, Canton Ergo-series speakers all 'round (with a pair of  KEF's on the rear as well).  I had a 20-20 FLAT response for all corners in the room (passive sub in the rear).  I was able to achieve 106dB at the listening spot with no distortion, with 400 watts per channel into an 8-ohm load.
Anyway....... that was an INCREDIBLE system.
I would imagine (and soon will know) that it was very similar to the Wilson/Levinson system.  I'm sure it will be 'impressive'.
Despite all of the raw power and the potential it was able to bring to the table, the emotional aspect was definitlely lacking, when compared to the relatively simple systems I was able to demo from Linn an Naim.

I ended up selling my gear and I bought a NAD/Castle sytem (after having demoed both Linn and Naim) for its emotional bang for the buck factor.

Anyway, everyone can see that I've moved into the realm of battery-powered sources and ampification coupled with super-efficient loudspeakers.
The quest will continue, I'm sure.

One thing is certain.
I LOVE it when our neighborhood loses power and our music keeps playing as if nothing happened.  :D

Of course, I am headed 'off the grid', so this is a liberating thing for me to experience!!!!!!

Warmly,
Michael

Its always nice to hear different speakers...and to compare.
Maybe a fun trip in October.....RMAF....
Good luck with the RWA and Omega setup....it works.

When I was visiting Bigfish8 last weekend, the power went out for about 3 seconds. It was aggravating to recover, but the Oddysey electronics handled it with no problem. Slimserver not so good. But the little blue light on the battery powered DAC never blinked. I have a battery powered high end amp too, but it is too low power. No hum, no worries about lightning storms, and it is dead quiet. Looking forward to hearing the 70.2 very much. Probably at RMAF, I hope!

I'm already scheming to go to RMAF.  We'll see...........    :)

Hi,

Well the upgraditis bug has hit me again and I have paid my deposit for a pair of Salk Sound HT2's.  These have to be shipped to Australia and I'm hoping they sound really good.  My last pair of speakers were Nuforce s9's (I still use them).

My system has really lacked something over the past couple of years and the main component that I keep swapping is the amplifier.  A friend recently bought over his N.E.W. A60 which is a Class A amplifier.  In another lifetime I had the DC version of this amplifier but I had problems with the recharge circuit and I kept chewing batteries.

Anyway I really liked the sound of my system with the N.E.W. amplifier.  It really just seemed to come alive.

I sent my beat up old N.E.W. to a friend who is in the process of building an AC power supply and I'm hoping that it sounds good once it has been modified for me.

Regards

Hey Rod! :) Glad to see you stop by.
If they are the same Salk's I heard in AKSA's room at RMAF, I think you'll be pleased.  I enjoyed the sound in that room very much... I was 'content' to stay in there for a long time.

TTYL,
Carl
I really enjoy listening to music.

This thread has been inactive for a little over two months and I cannot believe everyone has been content for that long.  Lets see, I have had a custom stand built for the Plasma TV and rearranged my room.  I have replaced the Bolder modded S3 with a ModWright Transporter and have had a blast rolling tubes.  Yesterday, I sent Grover a check to upgrade to his latest ICs.  This is one fun and addictive hobby and no, I am not content yet!
