I am looking for an in-expensive (¢heap) CD and/or DVD player that I can use as a transport for an office system, to go along with my Little Dot Mk.III Headphone amp as a Pre, a stock EE Minimax DAC, a BK ST-140 power amp and a pair of NHT Super One monitors.  Used or new is OK, as long as there's a digital out to run into my DAC.

Any ideas...???

Thanks!

Does anybody know anything about this Onkyo C-7030 Compact Disc Player?

Is there anything out there better for this cheap?

Thanks!

Hi

That is one nice office system you got there. I have no experience with the Onkyo you have linked BUT if you don't mind used and can wait to find one look for an Oppo DV980H or DV981H DVD player. I was able to score one for $120 and I'd trust the Oppo more.

If you really want to go budget I say get a Sony DVP-SR500H.
The display isn't the greatest but I've used it as a transport to   a Schiit BiFrost Uber DAC and source to a tube buffer. No issues quality wise or sound wise to me. It is pretty small too so you can stack your EE DAC on top of it to cover it up.

If the snow ever lets up I can lend you the Sony so you can listen for yourself. I have an extra one that I'm not using.

Thanks, Dean! I'm leaning towards new, because I'm afraid of laser life of a used unit. (I wouldn't hesitate on any other used audio component.)

I have some thinking to do now!

Try the local goodwill or pawn shop. They always have cheap electronics. Even if the laser goes you just go get another one. The EE DAC has Sabre DAC so jitter is not a big issue.

You need one other component to make your (listening) office complete:

Craig's List?

Any inexpensive Sony will do just fine. Mine has over 10,000 hours on the laser. Stay away from Phillips based laser CDP. Sony lasts much longer.

I tried BOTH of the local crack houses here on L.I.  Not very much to pick from. Mostly 5 & 6 disc changers or carousels.  Most of everything lacked a digital out.  :-(

I love the chair & ottoman combo, Rich.  That will be the next thing to look for!   :thumb:

I decided to give the Onkyo C-7030 a try.  It was $159.50 on Amazon and I had a $25.00 gift card from Christmas, so it ended up being $134.50 with free shipping.  We'll see how this works out.

Thanks everyone!

Looks sweet! I like Onkyo stuff.

Thanks, Rich.  The features/specs list "25-Track Memory Playback" which has my curiosity, but I can't find much about it anywhere.

Memory Playback lets you make a playlist of tracks on the inserted CD. The playlist is erased when you remove the disk. You can edit the playlist during playback.

OK, got it.  In it's simplest terms, nothing more than a programming feature by track#.  The way they worded it (25 track memory playback) sounded almost like it would copy files onto some sort of hard drive and then playback off of that!  I guess no such luck for an item that LISTS for $199.00!  :duh
