I'm sad to report that one of the most respected audio techs, Bill Thalmann, passed away about a month ago.  This guy probably fixed and upgraded more Technic SP-10 II's and III's than anyone.   He was generous with his time on the phone, and had a mastery of classic old gear.  Two of my turntables bear his stamp.   Don't know anyone that knew more about direct drive turntables.
Good techs are a rare breed and getting rarer.

The power transformer?  All transformers on this unit are Lundahl.

It doesn't look like a transformer to me. I see three transformers across the back. The object I'm asking about sits directly in front of the rear center transformer. It is almost purple with a white (or silver?) horizontal bar at top.

OK.  Yep those are heat sinks.  Beats me what they are doing exactly.
Here is an article on the build of this very same amp.  Maybe it sheds light...

They operate as chimneys.  What you can't see are the through holes in the circuit board underneath the heat sinks.   As things heat up, the differing thermal coefficients cause aluminum to heat quicker than the steel chassis.  Heat rises.  Heat differential convection will create a cooling flow through the chimney.

Andy Singer- Quite a presence on the NY audio store scene, and I believe he did some reviewing for either Stereophile or TAS.

John Mayall.

He was one of the most important people in England during the '60s along with Graham Bond to kindle blues during that time.

One of the first blues albums I bought was John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton.  My first was BluesBoy King.  The next was Albert King Born under a Bad Sign... aaaand I was done and started playing Blues.

Lost JD Souther Yesterday.
Anybody remember the Souther-Hillman-Furay Band? Had that album.
