But definitely worth a listen if you have Tidal.

My new favorite Beethoven Piano album. Pretty much all the solo piano music on 12 discs.

Unbound is an apt title as he does not conform to the traditional emotionally constricted "correct interpretation" that so many young piano robot zombies play nowadays. It is refreshing and fun, technically thrilling. A little light on the darker passages that others like Brendel can dig deeper. It's a relief to hear Sonata 20 played like the child exercise it was intended. The recording sounds absolutely enormous, big round full tone, dynamic, big ass low register, with perfect amount of compression. Live audiences are silent until they explode at the end.  Heard it on my local FM radio station tonight. Sounds even better from Tidal.

My wife was singing the opening theme of this today while we showed our daughter how to march heel to knee on a walk in the woods. She didn't know what the melody was from but it popped into her head.

This one of my favorite versions, Bernstein with NYP. Bold and brash! The tape hiss is a little annoying, but the performance is great.

Chicago: VI Decades Live (This Is What We Do)

A collection of various live performances going all the way back to the late 60s. I get very nervous when I see these kind of collection of "lost" concert performances. I always feel that if they were really that good they never would have been lost in the first place.


Well this was one of those cases. I can't really speak to much to the SQ because I played it via Tidal through a Bose Bluetooth speaker, but even through that it was not anything to write home about, Not all that bad, but nothing special either.But that in the end really didn't matter to me because the performances didn't do much for me either


Nothing eye opening here. Just a chance to try and cash in on some old tapes that were laying around the vault. Glad I found this one in Tidal and did not have to lay out any $s to hear it.
