My wife and I were having dinner when she decided to play her music system... "Alexa, play music by Edvard Grieg".  So we listened to all the old war horses, including the SLOWEST piano concerto I've ever heard.  Lacking all the sparkle and virtuosity the big boys like to show off.  But there were charming moments.  So I told her, let's go listen to another version.

Which led me to pull out something a bit more obscure:

My wife is out of town nursing her little sister so I used the kitchen table as a work space, and brought an old project back to life.
Glowing in the dark, playing Sting's  Ten Summoner's Tales.
A Fisher 400 receiver from the mid to late 60's.  All US made, all tubes.

That's a beauty!

I'm pretty happy with the way it turn out.  The most labor intensive thing was getting all the cigarette smoke out of it!  I swabbed all surfaces, inside and out, with naptha then alcohol.  Cleaned the pots, all tube sockets, changed a few caps.  Not bad for a $100 find.  I still need to do a more thorough restoration.... one day.

How did you rip it from the SACD? I have a few hybrid SACD titles, but no SACD player. I'd like to do this as well.

I'm listening to the soothing sounds  :thumb: of Bruce Dickinson from Iron Maiden's "The Number of the Beast" album from 1982!  FLAC from a CD reissue. I once had the cassette but I don't know where that ended up...

Are there any hard rock / NWOBHM fans here?

The double bass drums will put your subwoofers to good use!

Admittedly, it took me quite a while to appreciate Miles Davis, but I think my ears have finally matured enough to grok his music. I began the morning listening to a TIDAL mix of mellow Jazz songs from various artists. The third or fourth song was Generique by Miles Davis. I enjoyed it so much that I decided to listen to the entire "Ascenseur pour l'echafaud" album. WOW!  Holy shit!! This is fantastic.

I listened to these two Anne Bisson albums because I liked the Direct to Disc LP of hers called "Four Seasons in Jazz Live at Bernie's" that I heard last year at CAF.

Unfortunately neither of these albums really did anything for me musically. But nothing ventured, nothing gained. At least they were both a free listen on Tidal.

A 1957 London pressing of the operetta based on Granados "Goyescas" with the National Orchestra of Spain.  Very clean recording.
Kinda strange to create an opera from a handful of piano pieces, but that's what they did.  I like the piano better, but I'm not really an opera guy.
It's got the booklet of the lyrics in Spanish and English so you can follow along.
Granados went to NYC in 1916 to perform these little pieces.  Returning to Spain his ship was torpedoed by a German sub.  He drowned trying to save his wife.  He was in his prime as a composer and the world lost no telling how many masterpieces from his early death.
This is an interesting version of one of them...   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jo8S6mTbfs
