--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes: Many many thanks to the taper and Mesquite for sharing this gem from his fantastic collection. Recording seems a little boomy, turn down the bass & turn up the treble during playback. Can never get bored of CWTAE (a psychedelic masterpiece) and Echoes. Nice jam during OTR & ACYL.

This cd came to me with 11 tracks with some repeats between cds. I used cdwave & Cool Edit pro (CEP) to split tracks and remove any repeats. No other processing was done.

Harvey Mandel
Unknown
San Francisco area, CA
1995-xx-xx

Source:   On-stage(?) mics > DAT by Chief via David McGee
Transfer: DAT > Tascam DA-3000 > WAV @ 16/48 by Charlie Miller
Master:   Wavelab 10 (tracking, remove DC offset) > FLAC 1648

Thanks to Chief and David McGee for the DATs and Charlie Miller for the transfer.

01. Unknown
02. The Snake
03. Let's Work Together
04. Crosscut Saw
05. My Soul's On Fire

This DAT was labelled but the label was illegible.  Chief's collection contained two other Harvey Mandel DATs from 1994 and 1995.  This performance includes Bobby Strickland (it sounds like him) and Lori Davidson (it sounds like her, and she is introduced) but has nothing to indicate where the show took place.  Chief's collection was from the Bay Area, however.  So this performance was likely in or near San Francisco, probably in 1995, although 1994 is also possible.

Chief also had a number of on-stage recordings made by Steve Fink or others, using AKG C61s or KM 254s. This sounds like one of them, but again, the label was not legible.  It sounds great, though.

Enjoy!

Remastered 9-2017 - remaster of shn id# 23743
When I first transferred this I knew nothing about my remastering program.
I had normalized the show in it's entirety, instead of by set.
This caused each set to have different volume levels, do I did them individually this time
the original average levels were @ 62%, there were some volume bursts, and the balance was off.
this new remaster is a vast improvement of the same transfer. Enjoy!
(Please note that the original transfer listed Toa DM1200d mics. this lists the proper mic model)
I also tagged the new version.

FRANK ZAPPA
June 30, 1991
Taban Budapest, Hungary

Frank's last public performance.

I got this on tape about 10 years ago.
It must have been on the tracker before but it's not here now so here it is again.
If it was here I have no idea if this sounds better or worse.
I believe that Frank spoke after his performance.
That is NOT included here because I do not have it.
I am pretty sure that all the music he played IS here.

--------------------------
THE BAND
FZ - guitar
Gyula Babos - guitar
J‡nos Egri - bass
BŽla "Szakcsi" Lakatos - keyboard
Imre Kšszegi - drums

__________________________

THE SONGS:
01 intro
02 improv #1
03 improv #2

BONUS (tracks 04 & 05)
04 My Name is Fritz
These two are from the late 1970's boot "Remington Electric Razor"
Track 04 is from a scratchier record than track 05
"My Name Is Fritz" is a circa 1968-1969 comedy bit in the studio
This parodies a German customs officer (Roy Estrada) searching the band's luggage.

05 Remington Electric Razor
Linda Ronstadt is credited as the female singer on this.
Maybe, maybe not.

--------------------------
THE PERFORMANCE:
I like it.
Frank working in a more casual context than we usually get to hear him.
He's not playing his music.
It's just jamming.
Not as eastern european-sounding as I had thought it would be.
In spirit anyway, it kind of reminds me of some of the improvised stuff he did at Amougies back in October 1969.

--------------------------
THE SOUND:
Audience sourced.
Quite listenable.
A little hissy during the quieter moments.

I have no idea how this compares to any other version of this show that might have been on the tracker previously.

NO noise reduction or other "remastering" has been done.
This is a straight digitization from the cassette I got a decade ago.

--------------------------
THE LINEAGE:
audience > ???? > cassette > digitization via Audacity > FLAC 8 via xAct

------------------------------------
HEY GANG:
I offer what I have, with ALL the information known to me.
If you've got a better version, seed it.
If you have more accurate information, please add it in a comment.
Try and keep it positive.
Let's make this as good an experience for all as possible.

Paul Simon, Paris-FR, Theatre des Champs Elysees, 30 october 1980, (Art Garfunkel as guest) SM aud master, uncirculated

My last contribution for the freeloader period : an uncirculated Paul Simon show.
I used my Sony TCD5 with 2 x Phonia powered mics (i had my Beyer set some month later).
The result is good considering i had seats in the theater chicken coop.

The sound improves after a few songs.
Beautiful Gospel set.
Art Garfunkel came for two encores.

Cassette - Marantz 4051 SD deck (pitch) - Zoom H4 - SD card on PC - Audacity (volume, a bit of eq, tracks, FLAC export) - md5 with TLH.

The guitarist sounds like Eric Gale with Steve Gadd also in the band.

Setlist :

01 Intro
02 Me And Julio Dowby The Schoolyard
03 Still Crazy After All These Years
04 Ace in the Hole
05 You're Kind

08 Slip Slidin' Away
09 One-Trick Pony
10 Jonah
11 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover
12 Late In The Evening

14 Kodachrome / Mabellene
15 Have A Good Time

Charles Mingus Sextet
Koncerthuset, Stockholm, Sweden
April 13, 1964

Source:  onstage mics > reel > cd
Lineage: Silver CD's > eac > flac
Quality: Excellent (9/10)

"Charles Mingus Sextet 1964"  Royal Jazz  RJD 518 1991

CD 1
1. So Long, Eric  (2:38)
2. Meditations-false start (2:06)
3. Meditations    (16:04)
4. So Long, Eric    (6:54)
5. Orange Was The Colour Of Her Dress  (13:10)

CD 2
1. Peggy's Blue Skylight    (11:03)
2. When Irish Eyes Are Smiling  (11:35)
3. Fables For Faubus   (17:46)

CD 1 Tracks 1-4  Afternoon Rehearsal
CD 1 Track 5, CD 2 Tracks 1-3 Concert

Personnel
Johnny Coles - trumpet
Eric Dolphy - alto sax, bass clarinet, flute
Clifford Jordan - tenor sax
Jaki Byard - piano
Charles Mingus - bass
Dannie Richmond - drums

Another great musical genius who thankfully stuck around long enough (unlike saxophonist Eric Dolphy)
to produce a large body of work.  The 1964 tour is well documented on legitimate & bootleg releases.
This one includes the afternoon rehearsal-listen to disc 1 track 2 for some chatter between Mingus and Dolphy.
As with all concerts from this era, there was no soundboard & multi-tracking, so the recordings came from onstage
microphones, which is how this came into being probably for a radio broadcast.  We can thank the Swedish
for broadcasting a lot of music which eventually was preserved for our listening pleasure many years later!

as always, enjoy & share the music...

Date and venue confirmed on Calyx website.
Stereo soundboard recording.

I got this show in a trade with a former member of "The Sex Beatles" who is a long time friend of
Steve and Miquette. His note said this tape was given to him by mr. Hillage in 1979.
I don't have any further info except that it came to me as two .wav files (one or each side of
the tape).
It's most likely incomplete but I never saw it on traders lists so I guess someone
might like it. This tape was described as "played hundreds of times" but it's still listenable.
Enjoy!
