Tchaikovsky: 1812 Festival Overture, Op. 49 (Original Scoring), Capriccio Italien - Dorati/Minneaplois Symphomy Orchestra

Mercury Living Stereo LP

I picked this out of the dollar bin for my son. This was a very popular album in its day so there are tons of them around and the law of supply and demand drives the price for this LP down to bargin basement levels. But just because they are easy to find not because it is in any way an undesireable album. In fact I had forgotten just how good it was and was taken back tonight by just how good the performance and the sonics really are. It was the first time in months that I sat in the listening chair without geeting up once for an entire album (with the one excetion of the time I had to flip the record.) It just sucked me right in.   :)

As cheap and easy to find as this album is, every audiophile should make an effort to own a copy.

Roger McGuinn: Treasures from the Folk Den

CD

From Amazon:
Since 1995, former Byrd-man Roger McGuinn has been posting a song each month on the Folk Den (www.mcguinn.com) to celebrate and spread the traditional repertoire that launched his musical life in the '50s. Now he revisits 18 of those songs on a collaborative, home-recorded CD, singing and picking his banjo and 12-string guitar alongside stalwart folkies like Pete Seeger, Joan Baez, Jean Ritchie, Odetta, and next-generation talents Eliza Carthy and Josh White Jr.

Blues for Allah
Grateful Dead | Format: flac

Background music while I try to bring my old htpc back to life. Had planned to use it to convert the vinyl I've been collecting, especially the classical, to flac, and it up and died.

Steve Vai – Passion And Warfare

      CD

I dunno - just can't get into Mr. Vai.

Got the double album set, does nothing for me. I'd rather look at the pretty colored vinyl than actually listen to the vinyl play.

Love the version of "(I Know) I'm Losing You", the drumming/hi hat work is top notch.
