Ben Webster: Music for Loving

When I first heard this my knee jerk reaction was "Yuck, lose the strings." But after a while they start to grow on you. I still prefer Webster's straight up jazz, but this is really not that bad for a relaxing change of pace.

Beethoven - The Five Piano Concertos: Ashkenazy/Solti/Chicago Symphony

London 4 LP Set

I had high hopes for this set, but ended up being very disappointed. The performances weren't bad, but the recording was a showstopper for me. The microphone placement on the piano and the way it was place in the mix were such that the piano took up more space in the sonic soundstage that the rest of the orchestra. It painted a very unreal sonic picture (a Paul Bunion sized Steinway   ) that I found quite distracting to the point where I just turned it off. 

This one will be heading back to the Crack House as a donation.
