Bill Evans Trio: Waltz for Debbie

DSD

And a little trivia about this album, "Debby" in the composition's title refers to Evans's niece, Debby Evans.

How much better is the DSD version? I've only ever heard the Riverside CD.

I don't have the original Riverside CD, but I do have a copy of the K2 Super Coding 20 bit Remaster

Compared to the DSD, the K2 sounds kind of flat from an imaging perspective. It is as if it was a picture being projected on a screen and everything only existed within the plane of that screen. With the DSD there is a definite sense of soundstage depth that is missing from the CD. In addition to a more precise placement of the instruments, both in width and depth, the DSD also gave me a better sense of the space an air between them  whereas with the CD the unoccupied space was ore dead and dark.

In total, while the CD sounded like a very good facsimile of the performance, the DSD just sounded more like real music.

All that said the CD is still quite good and the level of SQ in it us such that it definitely would not get in the way of sitting there and enjoying the music. But the DSDD is just s bit better around the audiophile edges.

Oohhh, now I am interested. Where do I get a DSD copy? I only see Sunday at the Village Vanguard available.

I hope this qualifies for entry to this thread- Today I had a painter over to do some- wait for it- painting. He’s been coming to the house over 20 years and has always been interested in listening to and appreciating my system. I had my speakers and rack covered with towels as I knew there was spackling and sanding to be done. As SOON as he was done and starting to pick up, he just looks at me and asks, ‘Can we listen to the system now?’
He loves drum stuff- Moby Dick went on, Iron Butterfly, Kodo drummers, and his favorite was- Castilian Drums by Dave Brubeck (Live- Carnegie Hall) AND, he feels Moby Dick’s drum solo was inspired by Castilian Drums.
There you have it.

Black Lion CD

This is the first release from Black Lion that I have been disappointed with. The sound is just kind of meh. It's not really bad, but for a session recorded in 1962 I expected much better.

P.I.

Eric Burdon has long been one of my favorites.  Saw them Him with War and Ten Years Qfter in 1970. Great show at the Palladium...

They absolutely killed it with this!
