I never thought I'd hear "Warren Zevon" and "less bizarre" in the same sentence.

One of the best Kenny Dorham records. He is in top form musically, and excellent form on the horn. With Hank Jones, Max Roach, Sonny Rollins and Oscar Pettiford. Only a handful have reached the summit of Mount Bop, but here is KD standing proudly on the summit and among the greatest jazz players ever. This is from the mid 50s, after Brownie, so Sonny is at the peak of his powers and discipline. There is a very serious spiritual feel to this session. Recorded May 21, 1957 for Riverside in NYC.  Really nice on vinyl ;)

Haven't listened to this for a while. Quite enjoying it for background while working.

Bud Powell Trio, Birdland 1956, w/Paul Chambers, Art Taylor. On a rare French vinyl, Musidisc 5167.

He plays "Tea for Two" at about 1000mph, modulating up a half step every 2 bars. Sick! Playing very strong in '56 at age 32. Great side. Mr. PC is much more adventuresome as soloist here than on later recordings with Miles.

Coltrane's Sound - LP

Someday I want to learn to play Satellite which is How High The Moon with Coltrane changes.

With my daughter Christina, her favorite record...   showed he how to use the TT. Fingers crossed!
