This is usually where I get off the Miles train. I know this is supposed to be a landmark album, but sorry guys, I just don't get it. I just can't get into the atonal an poly-rhythmic styles of  avant-garde jazz (but then again I never have been big on 20th Century classic for some of the same reasons. I really enjoy mast of Miles' earlier work, but this is just a bit too off the beaten path for my tastes.

But to each his own.

Bitches Brew is also an album that I never really understood musically. However, don't give up on what follows Tom. There's some good stuff after this too (selectively).

OK, here is my first complaint about one of these Sony "perfect" collections. This 2 CD set comes in a cardboard mini-LP sleeve that opens like a book. The problem is that the openings to get the CDs out are on the inside, both facing the spine. This wouldn't bee so bad except for the fact that the sleeves are a bit tight so in order to get the CD out you need to turn the slot facing down and give it a little shake. Well three times in a row I did this and the disc slipped down exactly into the slot on the other side with the other CD. This happened 3 times before I was able to get disc one out of the sleeve. Boy I felt like a dope. It would have been much easier if the slots just faced to the outside of the sleeve like the single disc albums do. A minor headache, but annoying none the less.

As for the music it is pop-funk-jazz fusion type live album, but nowhere near as abstract as On the Corner was.

Not bad, but I much prefer his 1950s & 60s acoustic work. YMMV

The last of the 20 Album Perfect Miles Davis Collection. Similar in musical style to the Star People album.

Nice work Tom, I kinda like 'We Want Miles', and Bitches Brew grows on me with each listen. But the older ones are faves.

Did you by chance get his French Soundtrack album, "Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud (Lift To The Scaffold)"
