Coleman Hawkins "The Hawk in Europe - 1934-1937" on the Living Era label.
Hawk, along many other black jazz artist, got fed up with racism in the USA and spent several years in France. This is a collection of his time with the many artist in Europe, including Django Reinhardt.

And quite a few blues artists. Also I do believe that Europeans have a finer appreciation of real art. So it draws exceptional talent. One of my favorite artists, Beth Hart rarely does concerts in the US. 95% of her performances are in Europe.

Ben Webster spent a good part of the 60s in Europe for the same reason. he did quite a few live recordings while he was there and his work of that period is IMHO some of his best.
