As to (hopefully) not upset Pete, B4 the show, I've read that the BP DAC only handles PCM to 24/96 and no balanced out. Deal breaker. Looking forward to speaking with Pete about this if/when Steve (Sound Insight and GT Audio Works) has a get together.
Hal - If you haven't heard the BorderPatrol DAC, you really haven't heard real ANALOGUE sound from DIGITAL. There is absolutely no "Digititus" from this "human-sounding" DAC...
Just sayin',
Pete
Well, I have heard it. At your place and at shows. I agree, it definitely does sound very good, analogue like, etc. In fact it was for this reason that I checked the BP website
https://www.borderpatrol.net/dac/I like R2R and multibit as opposed to delta sigma. Which this DAC offers (R2R). I also like the affordability of this DAC and their power supply design. I can't understand though why they only offer one model, and of that one model the PCM is good only till 24/96. I don't want to debate the "you can't hear the difference between 24/96 and 24/192" thing. I don't even care that that it doesn't natively support SACD (DSD) or other non PCM data. Lets look at the output terminals. I'm even okay with only USB and SPDIF. But SE only?
I like options. In this case balanced output isn't available. But yes, the BP DAC does sound very good and it's at a favorable / palatable price point.
