Tired of listening to the dog whine when I go and listen to music, I decided to dig out my headphones. Broken they were. I only used them maybe 3 times so basically brand new, I bought them in 2022. I ordered a pair of Hifiman Sundara and the Schiit Miidgard head amp. I'm enjoying it very much. I have nothing to compare it too as I am not a headphone guy.

I had headphones once and that was probably 30 years ago. I have no idea what the brand was, but the part covering the ears was very enclosed and I recall it being uncomfortable and maybe getting minor headaches. Never did try any other types of headphones. It's not something I need or can even utilize right now, but something I'd certainly consider if I moved into a different home or had a second system.

I like my pair of HiFiMan Sundara phones.  Comfortable and improved over the replaced HE500's that had a wire break after many years.

Switch between my Meridian Explorer2 DAC/HPA for the laptop and the Topping E70V DAC and D90 HPA with the PC Music Server.

I find you have to get the adjustment on your head just right. I find my ears getting warm from the earpads and they claim sheepskin pads are much cooler. But the sound is excellent. Just trying to figure out what people claim is a wide soundstage Afterall my head is sandwiched between two cans and mentally I can't get passed that in terms of wide soundstage.

I had the He400 se and the jack on the earpiece fell into the can. It has a nut but just couldn't get the threaded portion of the jack through the can far enough to tighten it down. I took the earpiece apart and even tried glueing it in place. I was going to buy another set but was afraid it might happen again so I bought the Sundara.

Picked up a balanced cable to try out what Schiit calls Halo effect, but it just sounds to me like a typical balanced connection.

Introducing Halo: Breakthrough or Illusion?
Halo is a mixed-mode feedback topology that incorporates your headphone driver into the feedback loop, offering the potential for better control at driver resonance and improved acoustic results. However, since confirming that would require years of research and still have everyone arguing about it, we decided to do something crazy: introduce this amp at a great price and let you decide.

Try For Yourself; Measure For Free
Want to try Halo? Plug in to the front panel XLR. Compare to the front panel TRS, which doesn't have Halo, because Halo requires separate ground returns. See what you think. We'll also go further: if you have an acoustic measurement rig and want to publish your results (positive or negative, we don't care), contact us and we'll get you a Midgard to measure.

A Great Headphone Amp, Period
Halo or no, Midgard is completely over the top in terms of value and performance. It delivers nearly 5W into 32 ohms through either the ΒΌ" TRS or 4-pin XLR connectors with near state-of-the-art measurements. It's quiet enough for super-sensitive headphones. It has smart protection to safeguard your headphones (and itself). And it has a top-of-class Alps RK27 volume pot for smooth control and fantastic tracking. Aaaaand it's made in Texas.
