Is it possible for a single driver to maintain great sound off axis?
Ones I have heard seem to be mostly point source (if I'm stating that right)
and loose a lot off axis or not directly where the speaker is aimed.

I don't know the answer to your question, so hopefully some guys will chime in. But this sure is an interesting single driver speaker and was used by Jason at Hapa Audio when he was recently at CAF.

Hi Don,

If the beaming is noticeable, and the driver has a phase plug, I have found
a tiny bee bee/bearing, glued (contact cement) at the point will spread the
highs, lessening the beaming, actually measured. The trick is how small, the
correct size, the bee bee/bearing needs to be. I would start as small as possible
to begin with.

Hope this helps.

Try Rethm. Mine did not do that. Wide soundstage with depth. Lost them when my basement flooded.
