Glad to hear that those upgrades all turned out well for you. I didn't think you could resist putting the new LPS into the mix.

It seems like this experiment has reached a succesful conclusion. If you're still looking for more tone and timbre then that's going to have to come from somewhere else with possibly an equipment change or modification. The VG's are always going to tell the truth about what's in the chain in front of them.

Yes, a wonderful result. The VGs are a special speaker. Your recommendation on the little brother Abscisse and them then being received damaged led me to the path of the Voce Grande. A circuitous route, but I'll take it!

Quote from: Nick B on August 25, 2026, 09:51:02 PMAn update on Pete's ethernet cable. It's breaking in beautifully and has really added to the system. It has revealed more detail and presented a more realistic presentation of what the original recording was like. I was always a bit surprised and puzzled that some of my old time recordings didn't have more instruments and accompanying vocalists in the studio. This cable dug out those details and it was a pleasant surprise to confirm those recordings from decades past were thoughtfully recorded and didn't skimp with instruments and backup singers.

Today I received a linear power supply from AliExpress. It's for the iFi optical isolation unit. Jack found it for $60 and Dave confirmed it was a quality lps. The shipping was less than $25 and the seller was great to deal with. I was going to keep it out of the system, but a little bird on my shoulder told me to put it in. It's easy enough to go back to the wall wart. Just change the USB C wire plugged into the iFi. Everything is, of course, plugged into the Uber. I only have a couple of hours on it. But all that new detail revealed by the ethernet cable has been refined and presented as a naturally coherent part of the recording.

So my thanks to Pete, Dave and Jack 🎶

You are welcome from us all, I'm sure.  It's what we do.

The best thing any of us can do for SQ is getting power right.  A bad heart pumping diseased blood ain't a good thing.  The brain has to think clearly.

Getting every SMPS power supply out of your system is a good thing.  Getting every SMPS power supply off of your AC branch circuit is equally important.  There are 2 branch circuits (phases) in our 120VAC power.  Get all of the audio on one branch and every SMPS on the opposite branch.  The ground is shared between them and is a source of noise and distortion, but this is easily handled.

Thanks for the information. The only SMPS at all connected now with my Audio system is the TP link router in the adjacent room that receives the direct wired connection from the garage. I have certainly thought about using a good quality linear power supply for that unit as well. But then I was thinking how much could I gain because the data is streamed wirelessly from that main TP link unit in the bedroom to the TP link unit in the living room where my audio system is. But frankly I wasn't expecting much of an improvement with the AliExpress lps for the iFi and it blew my socks off. So what the heck do I know  😝
