Title: Rave in October
Post by: topround on August 02, 2014, 05:16:55 AM
I am thinking of throwing a rave in October date to determined.
I did some work on my house so my audio room was disassembled and I have slowly(very slowly) been rebuilding it. I like Richidoo, have taken an audio break. I still fool around with audio, just been very busy with work and life and kids.

I think it may be time for a rave soon since we have not had one in a long time.

System:

Audio Physic Virgo 2 with Jupiter copper foil caps and new wire and resistors. (new crossovers)

Music Reference RM9 all modded out with Jupiter Copper foils caps

Custom 12B4 preamp with of course Jupiter copper foil caps

Micro Seiki turntable with Lyra Titan i
Custom LCR phono stage with Jupiter copper foil caps

Apple G5 music server with Schitt Modi DAC
I will borrow a decent cd player.

This time people are welcome to bring whatever they want, just like the good old days!

Is any one still interested in a rave? I was planning on a summer rave but I have been too busy.

Mike

I would like to join you guys, but Oct weekends are already starting to fill up so it will depend on what the actual date is.

Let's say Oct 24th, that will be after RMAF if anyone is going this year.

I may have to change the date but I will put that out there as the date and will hold it unless something comes up on my end.

Cool, that's after parents weekend at my daughters school so there's a good chance (at this time) that I can make it on the 25th (24th is a Friday).

That's parent's weekend at my house, but we have been told not to plan on going because "only freshman parents show up for that thing." Of course thatt's easy to say in the midddle of the summer we'll have to see how she feels about it halfway through the semester.

Parents weekend is not for the kids. It's for the freshman mom's to see how their little baby freshmen are handling the transition so they can stop complaining to the dad that it was all his fault that their baby left home.

No need to go again after freshman year. By the time the kids are sophomores they either have figured it out or are living back home again and attending a local school.

Ok more news....\

Preamp is being modded with Slagle autoformers as we speak.

Preamp is loaded with Jupiter Copper foil caps which I consider the only cap to use.......God knows those deulands are all crapping out with leaks

Dave has offered to bring his 1:1 output transformers in copper and silver and we will be able to swap out the caps to hear transformer coupling before our very eyes.

If you have to use a cap the Jupiter copper foils are the only ones I would use, but I believe that a transformer can surpass any cap....any cap...........but I guess we will know for sure

won't we?  as we will actually experience it and not just spout something we read online.

ah....   truth..

Pete,
you should have been at my house for the choke shootout,, lots of fun..9 chokes...all sounding different, in the power supply.

crazy night of audiophile insanity, with Dave winding chokes in my kitchen.

Just broke the news to my wife about the rave,

she is still putting up resistance , but it has been a while since I had a rave so she knows she has to give in!

We can all throw in a few bucks for a gift certificate to a spa so she can be pampered for few hours while we "rave"

Mike a heads up the Audiosyndrome Oct. meeting is the 17th. I was at that Rave when Slagle made up the chokes on your kitchen table. Dave was soooooo shocked as to the difference he was beside himself. He said that he "never" expected to hear a difference and vowed to change his engineering head about parts sounding different. An enlightening experience for sure.

A heads up. Recently our club member almost lost his amp when the Jupiter cap failed. This is the second time I have heard that. Be careful the Jupiters have been reported to fail. To bad a great sounding cap.
    Any date yet ?

Yes a great sounding cap, you should try to get to listen to one.

Rave in Oct depends on the state of my preamp at the time.

OK Rave is cancelled.

Some of you guys know this already, but I did some renovation work on my house and had to take my audio room apart to help with the rebuilding of the entrance way to the house.
Since then I have not completely finished that  audio room. Summer came, which I spent almost every weekend hiking and continue to do every weekend....hence the room is not finished.

and my desire to finish it is not that strong, being busy with work and spending time in the woods or with my family, I sort of lost my interest in the hobby.

I still enjoy this hobby, but the hiatus was eye opening and new interests are driving me away from the hobby, perhaps one day I will be back...but for now it is a refreshing break.
So everything will be put up for sale. I have plans for a much smaller system based on vintage gear, gear that sounds so good for like no money it boggles my mind why I wasted so much in the first place!
It was and is a very healthy break..that I needed and truly appreciate.

Mike, as someone who has been a Boy Scout leader for almost 20 years now I could never fault someone for wanting to spend time in the woods.  :D

Rich is right, the music will always be there for you to come back to and there will be pleanty of time to play audio games in the years to come.

But what will not be around for much longer is your kids. They are only young once and I think it is a great decision to spend time with them while you can.

Trust me, the time will come all to soon when the only time they want to talk to you is to ask if they can have the car tonight.  :duh   Not that it is necessarily a bad thing, branching out to form new relationships away from your immediate family is a natural part of growing up, but spending time with them now will not only give you memories that could never be replicated, but also will stregthen the bonds you have wil your kids so that they are that much better when they do start to develop a life of their own.

Audio can wait because time marches on.

I have had a few hobbies over the years.
Speaker building, Astronomy, Trap shooting,
Pistol shooting, Fishing.
One time or another I have put one or more on the back burner.

Don't forget , I have the keys to the observatory if you want to do a little stargazing one clear night.....Greg

Thanks everyone it has been lots of fun.
Everyone I have met in this hobby has been great.
Many of the people I know have been part of the NY Rave, and I have learned so much from these people I consider good friends!
Most people would be jealous of the audio upbringing I had, God all the great raves we had...all the great people and all the fun.

Some of you knock the NY Audio Rave, but NO club ever had as much fun as we did, and NO club ever attracted as many people as we did in so short a time. We really did look forward to every month's meeting....those of you who where part of it know what I mean....lots of fun

I am not going anywhere, and will still play at this hobby, just the intensity I had for it has been replaced with other interests

Hey Mike. GOOD FOR YOU. Nothing like spending time with the kids. before you know it they are all grown and start a new life with their friends.
Audio is a great pass time for me. However you know when the Sun is shinning no audio room for me.
Enjoy your family now. Hiking must be a wonderful thing for your Son. Action, physical and good Ol fun.
For some this hobby becomes an obsession especially for addictive personalities like me and you. draw that line in the sand and enjoy your family, a'int nothing better. Priceless.

I had this amp in my system for a month or so, Mike gave it to me to use for a bit while he got his house construction done. It had come to me directly from being upgraded and modified. From the first listen it sounded wonderful and engaging. It has not been fully broken in yet, so I imagine it will only get better.   Greg
