Ok we have all done it. Sold that Pre or Amp and then realized what a mistake it was. I miss my CAT preamp. It was ruthlessly revealing of up front components and cables. At the time the CAT was in the house the CDP was the weak link. So we dabbled in DACs, Theta5a, Art DIO, EAD, still no cigar. So out went the CAT in came the Loesch & Weisner. The Phono stage blew me away and the digital was bettered, I thought.
Now that the Lector and Musicstreamer + are in the CAT deserves another chance. IMO the Losech has a world class phono section but the linestage section IMO can be bettered.
So what components have you sold that you now regret or would like to try again ?

Sell your old equipment  :duh...what a concept !

I still have damn near every piece of equipment that I've ever purchased. Yes, it is starting to overflow, into all of the rooms of the house, the garage, storage building, carport...everywhere .

I have got to try this SELLING concept .

I do not know about Preamps or amps that I sold and I have regretted, but I do regret having sold my
EPOS ES11s, twice. Duh.

Now that I think about it, I do regret selling my Sonic Frontiers Power 2 amplifier.  A 115 watts per channel 8 tubed 6550 amplifier.  It did not have the most accurate lows, but oh boy, it could make recordings sound ravishing with the right songs.  In retrospect, it was a HUGE amplifier in comparison to the other I have.

My list of items:

4 preamplifiers (1 used exclusively for its phono stage)

2 SET amplifiers

1 pair of op chip monoblocks

1 SS bear of a power amplifier

2 turntables

1 phono stage

1 analogue tuner

1 CD transport

1 DAC

1 USB DAC(cheapie for computer use)

2 headphone amplifiers

2 large speakers

1 pair of horn loudspeakers

1 small minimonitor

Several pairs of raw drivers

I really need some help in here dealing with the extra equipment.

What I've sold over the years...

Sota Sapphire with Linn ITTOK and Koestsu Rosewood  :duh
Vendetta Research Phono Pre  :duh :duh :duh :duh :duh
Audio Research SP-6C
Berning TF-10
Snell Type A
Infinity RS-1
Rogers LS3/5A

Bryan,

I am already Obsessively Audiophilic without the posts?

This thread is really making me feel better.  Just having a preamp in the closet that I no longer use made me feel like I had a problem (oh, and the various cables and power cords, of course).  I feel so virtuous now.

Rollo,

I don't regret your selling the CAT at'all. I'm quite enjoying it. :D/

Everyone, Now is the time to confess!

Stereofool,

I am happy you have more speakers than me; I can not hide anymore. So, the new pair of horn speakers I am purchasing will be hard to hide unless I unload at least two pair?

The small stuff like tubes are easy to hide (8 tubes coming next week). The  software ( 4 lps per week and 6-8 CDs per week) are easier to hide, ha!

I will soon have stuff for sale on Agon.

Bemopti123

I forgot to add....

1 integrated amp (Nait 3)

1 modded/refurbished older HK 470 Twin Transformer receiver

1 Pioneer A/V Receiver that I got from my friend and had it fixed

1 Pioneer 3 head Tape Deck

1 extra turntable(taking to my mother's place this Summer)

1 preamp (in my mom's place)

1 SS digital amp (H2o) in my mom's place

1 pair of Infinity Kappa 9s (need to have the surrounds done for this one) in mom's place

1 CDP (unboxed it today for my mom.)

and plethora of cables, I have no idea how many cords+interconnects

tubes here and there

% used?  Do not even ask.

PS:  While some people concentrate in quality, I guess I like a little of everything.

I started to regret selling the Snappers, but my wife reminded me about the tube explosions and the swearing. I said I coulda bought some better tubes, she said they would blow up too. She's right. She tells me to write down the reasons I am selling something before I do. Then I can refer back when I think I made a mistake. There were plenty of reasons to sell the Snappers besides the tubes.

The easiest resale decision I ever made was the Quad 2905s. Those were amazing but not a good match with my music and equipment. But if I had a large SS amp it might have been different.

I'm about to sell the Altmann BYOB amp, that worries me a little because it is my reference for perfect treble. But I can make another myself if I have to.

I have a lot of other gear but it is all midfi stuff throughout the house. Midfi doesn't count right?  haha

hometheaterdoc

Steve,

If you have 14 amps, surely you've got something to let Rich try?  :)  no big power stuff?

Heck, I'm kind of curious what you've got.  I know about the Butlers...

I've been feeling kind of nostalgic the last few days.  The Sony CD player took me back 10 years to some of the stuff I was buying back then.  It was before the business when I was having to buy from dealers and spending waaaaaaaaaaaay too much money just to try stuff out.  At least as a dealer I can sell it as a demo model :) hehehe  But I've been curious to retry some of the stuff that has come and gone from my systems, especially now that I've discovered other brands.  I wonder if it would change my opinion of the gear.  Uh oh... nervosa setting in....
