Not tried that yet, but it's a great idea! Thanks Mike!  Maybe it's inspired by this?

I use titebond to remove tiny splinters and FG that I can't see from my hands.  I wonder what the sheet of dried glue looks like after the cleaning, to see what it pulled off? That would be cool. How bout using a backing sheet of paper to make it easier to pull off, and easier to see the gook it removed?  Who's gonna be the first to try?   :D

I also like the enzyme LP cleaning idea too. Someone mentioned on AC a few months back using surgery room enzymatic cleaner. It dissolves anything.

I have no reason to doubt that this would work, but..... 4 - 6 hours to clean one side of an LP?????

I for one, would lose my mind.  [-(

Thanks, but I'll stick with my VPI machine.  :thumb:

I asked my wife, she thought it was stupid.   :duh

So it's a go!   :thumb:  I will try it on her record first.

What I'm curious about is how much better it can clean really old vinyl.  For example, I've got some original Beatles vinyl that date back to original release in the 60s.  I know it was not well taken care of (because I bought it when I was a teenager).  I don't play it now because it's noisy as hell - probably because of being played on really crappy turntables back then, but.. it might be worth trying the glue approach just to see...  is the vinyl really chewed up or is it really just dirt... I suspect the former.

If I do, I'll post the results.  If it can't work miracles I see no way it's worth doing given the time and mess involved.

I was thinking of what kind of backer substrate could be  used iwth glue to make it easier to peel off, and still allow the glue to dry "quickly."  A piece of fiberglass screen would do the job, as would cheesecloth, both are cheap. Paper would slow the drying.    I'm gonna try it too. I have a Miles Porgy and Bess LP that got ceiling drywall compound dust on it. One side is dead quiet the other is a nightmare, liquid cleaners have not worked. Granted I never used a machine or hightech liquid.

Rich,

:duh If you will remind me, then the next time I'm over there...I will bring my VPI machine and we will clean some of your vinyl.
Steve
Have you ever noticed.... Anyone going slower than you is an idiot...and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

Thanks Steve. RobS cleaned about 10 of them, they sound so much better now.   Only 300 more to go... I better get a couple gallons of Titebond.  :D
