Pro Gold to the rescue!

We all know the super benefits of keeping contacts clean and sometime applying contact enhancers, like Pro gold.

Well my Kitchen Aid dishwasher started doing some funny stuff tonight after I unloaded it. About 8 lights on the front control panel began blinking rapidly. Unplyugging it and replugging did nothing to stop it. So I called Maytag (they make Kitchen Aid) service and they couldn't help me beyond what I just did trying to recycle it. So I searched online and found out a few key things:

- the technical service manual is located behind the kick panel on the bottom of the unit.
- this manual contains several diagnostic routines for the machine
- there is a way to reset the control panel and step through the diagnostic by pressing a sequence of buttons

Well the sequence of buttons did nothing (sounds like a bad control panel, doesn't it?). So I ran a manual diagnostic by disconnecting the ribbon cable to the control panel; this worked perfectly. So, a little pro gold shot onto the pins where the ribbon cable plugs in and ... PRESTO ... it all works perfectly again.

Moisture is the enemy for any electrical connection and dishwashers are certainly moist, if nothing else.

I just had to share this little story with some people who would appreciate it. It saved me a service call charge and probably a replacement control panel as well.

Enjoy,
Bob

Excellent! I have a kitchenaide DW also. I'll remember that, thanks Bob.

Sweet! I'll keep that in mind if/when my DW goes on the fritz.

Good story to have in your back pocket the next time you and the wife get into one of those "Are you buying more silly cr@p for that stereo again?" discussions.  ;)

Glad you got it fixed, half way through reading my nervosa was thinking a new shiny audiophile power cord would improve performance.   :thumb:

But dishwashers do not come with IEC connectors.....  Maybe if I wire back to the breaker box with JPS in wall cable...
