The wife and I went to see Rickie Lee Jones at Westbury Music Fair last night. What a great show! She still has a great voice to go along with her guitar and piano playing. We were pleasantly surprised at how much vocal range she still has.  A lot of fun tunes and a few that I never heard, but overall a wonderfully enjoyable evening.  Of course, third row seats didn't hurt, neither!  :-)

She is Coolsville!

Did she play "Danny's All-Star Joint?"  I sold a lot of mid-fi with that song.

Yes, she played "Danny's All-Star Joint" (which is one of my all time favorites of hers) along with other classics like "Last Chance Texaco", "Coolsville", "Chuck E's in Love" and "Easy Money".  She also did "A lucky Guy", "Pirates" and some other songs from that second (Pirates) LP that I wasn't completely familiar with.  I was hoping she'd do "Dat Dere" (which I love) but no such luck! :(

Nonetheless, I'm very glad we went to see her.

Pirates is worth owning, despite the lukewarm reviews it received.  It is much more introspective and much less joyous than her debut, but it is a fine recording. The Magazine, the follow up to Pirates, is also terrific, especially "The Real End."

You should keep up with those Joneses.
